I think the film works so perfectly, we fall in love with Neytiri as Jake does, we are on the journey with him, and she acts as our tour guide

The shot of her face, when she blows away the seed of the sacred tree, during the reveal of their love for one another was sweet and honest, she is a pure soul and does not relish in causing pain. However when she abandoned Jake, I felt that was out of her character.
