It doesn't matter much in which application you colorcorrect your shots, AE works just fine as it's a good postediting solution. Photoshop can do this too but you will probably need more knowledge of what you're gonna do there.

Filmgrain is a fine grain which they now add in post on films like Avatar to make them more 'realistic' looking. Fully digital production are often too clean are not very real because all types of cameras and films produce a certain amount of noise and also a very specific type of noise (depending on ISO values and more). This is something you can add in AE and also in Photoshop, AE is probably the better alternative here unless you have any plugins for PS you can reproduce the effect with.

Your best work I've seen from you! Only one teeny tiny thing...

The second incisors also have to be pointy. Not as pointy as the canines, but still pointy.

Well the first time i did Pandorablue22 here the nose was quite large already, as "an old school" Na'vi kinda, and thus while she liked the pic a lot she requested i did another with another pic (higher resolution) so as to print it (the other one was much too small) and she kindly asked for thinner features like Grace and Norm for example.

Eeerrrmm sorry I must have asked the question the wrong way.

I do know what color correction is and filmgrain too, what i was wondering is what type of those you were suggesting, because what you do is stating there is a need on both those very *broad* fields but you're not giving details on what you think there is a tweak needed and i thought you had a specific filter/name/company/technic in mind.

That's why i was asking for the name and explanations on it since I need to sometimes translate it back to the french version I have in order to find the right way.

Like for color correction : there are tons of things that may be done one way or another and not for the same goals or purposes.

For the record, the original pic is taken a few seconds after this one , same car interior, same features, the new pic in this post is just thus without the glasses, but the rest is the same so I pretty much changed everything and there are already tons of colour tweakings.

You have to go by feeling, sense what feels and looks the best on your particular shots. There is no generic colorcorrection method and a specific filmnoise i can suggest that you should use. As you don't have access to all the specific data from the virtual camera used in the shot from Avatar you can only resort to rough estimated guesses what looks and feels good, that's why i suggest you work more using your feelings instead of working by rules, guides and tips.

The problem with the pic you linked to now is for example the hair, look in the photo on the left side how well it blends in with the skintone and the background. In your retouched photo it clearly stands out and separates the face from the rest of the head which makes the face look like it was cut and pasted into the photo without any actual matching with the backgroundplate. Try to think about the look and also the feel of the whole image, the composition, the colorbalance, tone, direction and intensity of any lightsources in the photo you work with, shadow intensity and direction. All this affects how realistic your final retouch will be.

And i'm sorry if my comments seem harsh and direct but i hope you can understand why i'm telling you these things, it's not to bash you or anyone else here doing these retouches, it's simply to help you and the rest to become better retouchartists.
