My 1st Avatarization! PS Background Suggestions?

Well, this is my first attempt at an avatarization! After Leyra created mine, it inspired me to try my own hand in photoshop; so this is what I came up with.

I decided to use my boyfriend as a guinea pig experiment, so the photo is his image. I will definitely be doing more avatarizations in the future, to perfect my techniques. The nose was killer! Lol. I'm still not happy with it so I'm sure I'll be doing quite a few revisions.

I guess my question now is, do any of you PS pro's have any tips for creating a background? I'd like to make a bio-luminescent flora background, like the world of Pandora at night. But I'm completely stumped for ideas. =/ I'd like to make it completely from scratch, but it's proving to be easier said then done. So if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate hearing them!

Yep. I used this one: Na'vi Avatar Photo Manipulation (Exclusive Tutorial) | Photo Editing

Except I did a few things differently and played around with some options, especially when it came to the eyes.

just my oppinion:

the stripes look painted on. you need to make them curve with the face and fuse them with his face.
