Default Who thinks there shouldn't be a sequel?

I loved Avatar and would love to see the world of Pandora and its inhabitants again but I'm not sure I want a sequel. With all the speculation as to who is directing it and where its going to take place and so on, I'm not sure it's worth the risk of making a sequel that what will be a flop. Avatar was perfect in every way, should we leave it there with the happy ending or should we continue on with the story? Of course none of this matters because Avatar 2 has already been confirmed, but is there anybody who thinks there shouldnt be a sequel or cant decide on whether or not there should be one like me?

I think there shouldn't be a sequel. The essence of the movie was Jake torn between 2 worlds, living in 2 bodies, eventually deciding and entering a new life. This storyline is now told.
A 2nd movie could be less good than the 1st one. Another war with RDA would just repeat parts of the story.
The end of Avatar leaves everything open for imagination how Jake's future will be. There are many fan fictions on this subject.

I would love a sequel as James Cameron does have a good track record for sequels, and he has stated that he had more ideas that followed this movie in his original thought process of Avatar. So I'm pinning my hopes on the positive for the sequel and hope it doesn't go pear shape.
Besides I so look forward to journeying back to Pandora to explore it more.

Avatar was iconic enough. I wouldn't mind a sequel. Thing is, sequels are hard to nail because a lot of folks expect them to live up to the first.

I am with you there. I have my doubts about a sequel. I really cannot see where the story can go from the end of Avatar. Avatar was a morality play. If in the sequel you just have the RDA coming back, or the Na'vi fighting another enemy, etc. it just becomes another action flick.

JC said that he had in mind an "arch" of three films when he wrote Avatar. He had the same sequel arch idea for Battle Angel (which he'll probably never film now). I guess we'll just have to assume that he knows what he is doing.

I am torn because part of me wants to go back to Pandora, but the other part of me doesn't know how a sequel can live up to the original.

Come on guys, JC can't make a bad sequel. T2 was better than the first in my opinion. He won't make Avatar 2 quickly and rushed like so many others sequels I could name. He has said that while the visual tech pioneered for Avatar is the heart of it, a deeply engaging story based on moarls is more important.

I have doubts, constantly, whether it should be a sequel or not ... on one side I really want to see and feel more of the magic on the other I'm afraid it may be spoiled ...

Does it need a sequel? No. Just like Star Wars: A New Hope didn't need a sequel. Plenty more story to tell, but it's tricky to get the story itself above the success of the first. The important thing is to not try to tell the same story all over again. A trilogy is like a three act play, and the first Star Wars trilogy worked that way. So be prepared: Avatar II is going to end on a downer. And it's probably going to hurt a bit. That sets us up for Avatar III.

Remember.....there are other RDA ships on their way to Alpha Centauri as a matter of the normal course of business, and they will probably get orders of some sort to turn things around. The battle is won, but the war is just begun.

I have brilliant ideas for what could happen in the sequel (I got the ideas from my dreams!)

    But...

    I am not James Cameron.

I totally agree with the above quote^^! Jim has always had a good track record with sequels. I mean look at Terminator 2. My uncle has stated that the first 2 Terminator movies were the best and they were both done by JC. I can't wait! *screams with happiness*
