Question Volcanos in the next Avatar?

I've been a visitor to the Avatar Wikia before the movie came out. Now when news of the sequals came out, I went to the pages on the sequals. I found some information about Avatar 2, and there were some interesting, if minor tidbits of information. Amongst them:

    • The exploration of Na'vi culture in the second film
    • The sequal will explore the oceans of Avatar, though I suspect that it will be somewhat like the way the floating mountains were explored in the first
    • It will take place several years after the first film
    • And then there was this: Avatar 2 will contain more VOLCANOS (?)

Okay, the first thing I thought was "volcanos?" and then "what volcanos in Avatar?"

To further inquire on this note, I turned to the Survival Guidebook. Turns out Pandora is a volcanically active moon. Even in the first scriptment, we're given a look into a volcanically active area of Pandora when the samson crashes from a toruk attack.

This got me thinking: how are they going to do this on film? And how will it be central to the storyline? Somehow, just as the floating mountains and toruk were intregral to the first movie, this and the oceans will serve the same purpose, somehow.

    Any thoughts?
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

well,i love the idea of further fleshing out the Na'vi culture, and maybe we'll get to see the Huntfestival after all,as well as other traditions, history, and societal norms of the Omaticaya Clan. i also am looking forward to seeing the ocean side of Pandora,as i am a big fan of ocean and sea-life here on earth, very nice. Pandora is not big continents like earth, but really a series of islands,of which the island the Omaticaya live on,is the largest one. most islands are formed by sub-ocean volcanic activity,so it would make sense to see something in the films about it,but i'm not sure how you would show volcanoes in the context of the movies. i trust that JC has a vision, and look forward to his sequels.

"Avatar 2. Now with more volcanoes!" LOL! Although none were shown in the first film, i'm guessing it would just be added as part of the landscape. Just to show off more of Pandora.

Well, Pandora is stated to be a volcanically active planet, and the early scriptment had a scene in which the Samson landed in a volcanically active zone, so I guess that the volcanoes will be placed in there. Pandora is not just a moon, it's a character.

Hmm, my guess is any active zone would resemble Iceland. Given Pandora is a lot more geologically active than Earth is. I'd worry if something like Yellowstone or Lake Toba exsisted on Pandora. Volcanoes like those two are world destroyers. Think about it, thousands of years ago, Toba nearly killed the entire human species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Toba

That would not be good if Pandora has such large volcanoes on it. The Na'vi would be doomed. I also think this might have created one or two of the first Times of Great Sorrow before humans ever showed up. Population dying, food dwindling, etc. Na'vi would be suffering immensely.

    Pandora would be volcanically active.

Yellowstone supervolcano has erupted several times before and the planet recovered fairly quickly. Though you would not want to be on the same continent when a supervolcano goes.

Well, unforcunately for me, I do live on the same continent that Yosemite currently resides, so I'm doomed, even if I don't live anywhere near Yosemite.

Actually I live in the western coast, from the data maps I've seen, the ash might not even blow in my direction. However, it's still doesn't mean I'm eventually going to stay upwind when the ash goes around the world.

Perhaps with the new landscapes and oceans, we will see new creatures, and possibly, na'vi tribes we don't know about. I can't help but picture a Na'vi riding a sea serpent or crocodile look-alike in/on the oceans.
