Thanks so much for your post, Jeffro Jones. You seem to get it! I like grittier sci-fi and I’m hoping JC doesn’t get too…well, comic-bookish with his Avatar prequels/sequels. I really would like to see it involve Earth in one of the sequels. There are ways to make it 75-80% Pandora and 20-25% Earth. The RDA/Selfridge angle needs to be resolved, too. In my mind, the inhabitants of Pandora really can’t ignore Earth anymore. I believe that it was destiny the two species paths crossed and the end result doesn’t and shouldn’t be bad. The dynamics of Jake being human and now permanently inside a Na’vi body has some interesting angles to it as well.

While there are a lot of people on this forum who would not like Earth involved, I think that Pandora has a lot of lessons for humans. The idea that Earth is dying and people aren’t doing anything about it just isn’t believable to me. I just don’t think there would be a Grace, a Jake, a Trudy, a Norm, etc. I understand the set up for Jake, so that he readily falls in love with Pandora. But the fact that he was paraplegic was enough in my mind for him to want to leave his earthly body for his avatar. So I’m hoping that there’s a broader storyline and yes, a happier ending for Earth in his trilogy. But, of course, I want it balanced nicely with more Pandora!

I guess that’s why I’m writing my own thoughts down. My story includes a “tour” of Pandora through Jake and Neytiri. Jake has to visit the other clans on Pandora as part of his elevation to clan leader. This is occurring side by side with the story of Nora, another scientist character, Norm and Max at the lab having to deal with the virus as well as the capture of some of the Na’vi by the RDA. That, and the health of Jake is what gets everyone in my storyline to meet up. How I can get it all to mesh together...well, still in the works! But maybe I’ll post some of it here eventually.

No matter what, though, I'm looking forward to whatever JC does with his story.

Very impressive plot!:D but I'd rather the point of view being Jake's for most of the movie but Nora could have a small part.

Apart from that, well done and well said.

I am really hoping that Mr Cameron will do what George Lucas did with the Star Wars universe. He wrote the movies, gave the universe a direction, then (eventually) turned the universe over to other writers. I believe that Mr Lucas has a crew of people that look over all of the books and give them direction on characters, timelines, and other 'common' artifacts, but that each author gets to explore variouse times and places in the universe to tell specific stories that they think help to fill out the universe.

So Mr. Cameron creates a few movies, that tell a specific story in the Avatar universe, but then later on, other authors may be able to tell stories that are dear to their heart, in the universe that Mr. Cameron invented. I have heard a number of ideas on this site that i thought were interesting, and I see no reason why these stores cannot be told as side stories after the movies are done. I think that the world of Avatar could easily support a number of side stories, back stories and future stories outside of the main movie storyline.

My point is, even if Mr Cameron does not do any back story, as long as he does not tell a story that is in conflict with your story (or other author's stories,) you may/should be able to publish your ideas later after the movies are done - as long as the universe gets opened up.

(on a side note, I find it really unfortunate that in the Star Wars universe - where there are so many really amazing stories written by various authors - that Mr. Lucas never made any of them into a movie. Even an animated movie would be worth it. There are untold number of really great stories in existence, and as I said, the universe of Avatar could be just as ripe.)

If interested, I started posting the fanfic for this storyline several days ago. Hint: even if you don't like the idea of a virus, you might still enjoy it. It's not about massive Na'vi sickness & killoff. I was just inspired by, and wanted to explore further, Cameron's idea in Project 880 of Pandora's counter viruses.

Comments & constructive criticism are welcome, but please be kind as this is my first ff. Just topping 11,000+ words, I feel like I'm at the point of no return with it.

In my storyline, Nora actually discovers this, that Ewya is not a tangible entity that she can return to Earth with and drop in the waters and soil and heal the planet that way. But she is enlightened from her experience on Pandora none the less. Much like Jake had a good heart, she does too and her efforts on Earth are not without reward in the end.

I see Tom's death as that unfortunate event that triggers awareness and enlightenment back on Earth.
Wouldn't Eywa be the God that humans worship. Well its like there's one universal god, but every species on every different planet worships him/her differently.

Yeah, you could look at it that way. As I view it, it's almost like Pandora IS Eywa. The moon is alive, not just a "rock" floating around Polyphemus. It is able to keep life in balance, and the Na'vi can "plug" into it with their queues. It just seems to be a living organism in and of itself.

I like the idea that there was something more sinister behind Toms death than something as petty as robbery although it does happen. I was thinking about the invite on something else in the story line to go along with this.
I had thought about the battle that happened between RDA and the Na'Vi when the sister got killed and maybe something from that could come from that. Maybe another Avatar got wounded during the battle and the driver went out to tend to it, he and the Avatar got captured and this was the way the Na'Vi came to call the Avatars Dreamwalkers. Maybe the driver was mortally wounded and Mo'at had both the Avatar and the driver brought to the tree of souls to see maybe the soul could be transfered so more interogations could be performed since the driver was about to die. Since Mo'at seemed to be real familiar with the process when Grace was attempted.
The Avatar is still alive and this could be part of your story for the second Avatar movie.

Thanks for the post, Pandora Warrior. I'm almost done with my story, though. Just one chapter (I think) and an epilogue to go. You're right that Mo'at seemed real familiar with transferring of consciousness...hmmm.
