Default Sequel Ideas for James Cameron

Ok, James. Listen to your fans now. First, you MUST have a sequel. Avatar is a phenomenon, not just a movie. Second, the sequel MUST include more insight into the life and beauty of Pandora. You're the greatest Mr. Cameron. Thank you. I do have an idea regarding the storyline for the sequel.

It will take about 6 years for the humans to get back to earth. During that time, Jake and Neytiri have established a family and helped make a new home for the Omaticaya people. Although Jake is highly respected, he is not he leader. The brother of Tsu tey is the leader and the best of friends with Jake.

During the same time back on earth, while the natural resources are still depleting, technology continues to move forward. Humans desperately search the galaxies for planets that contain usable resources. To that end, space travel has been advancing and the distance it used to take 6 years to travel, now only takes 8 or 9 months.

Furious over the loss of the Pandora mineral, the human military has sent a new team of troops to Pandora with a new mission. This time, the troops are highly advanced special ops types troops (Green Beret or Navy Seal, etc...). Their covert mission is simple, capture Jake Sully and return him to earth to face charges of treason.

The rumored presence of more Sky-people rekindle old feelings of hostility in the Na'vi, some of which is being displaced toward Jake.

The human scientists who remained on Pandora have also continued to study the marvelous and miraculous bio-network of life on Pandora. They have discovered a way that some resources on Pandora can be used to "regenerate" the earth's dying resources. The earth could then stop searching the universe and focus on using this science to restoring the life of the earth.

Before this life saving information can be conveyed to earth, the special ops troops first attempt to covertly capture Jake fails but they do capture his son, PeyTuan. This is only to lure Jake into their trap. In Jake's enraged attempt to rescue his son, the trap works and Jake is captured and returned to earth. However, the get away is not flawless and one of the New advanced travel vessels are left behind, along with Jake's son.

The Na'vi are torn. Although grateful for Jake's time as "Taruk Mak to", some feel that Jake being gone could mean that no more sky people will come to Pandora. Others believe that Jake is the one of the people and has given his life for the Na'vi, and therefore must be saved.

The humans on Pandora earnestly need to get their scientific discovery to earth but they need the help of the Na'vi. Convincing the Na'vi to rescue Jake is the way to gain their cooperation. The rescue operation is eventually approved and led by Neytiri, "the protector of the people" as requested by her dying father.

The earth is a gray, technological wasteland of artificial ecology. Machines generate fake whether and oxygen. Genetics and synthetics constitute the majority of all other material needs. Jake is being held in a secret military compound (area 51) where, instead of being tried for treason, he is constantly tortured and interrogated regarding weaknesses in the Na'vi defenses and access to resources. Once again, one of the soldiers and forensic scientists connect with Jake and do not not condone the government torture and treatment of Jake.

When the contingent of Omaticaya warriors reach earth, they will need the help of the new human allies in more ways than one.

    A. 10 ft tall "Blue' aliens are hard to keep hidden! Especially in a world where there is little to no "forest". In order for the Na'vi to move around on earth inconspicuously, they will need to be disguised. They are... by being linked to "human" avatars. The Na'vi become "drivers" of Human bodies, which is the only way to keep them hidden and able to withstand the earth's atmosphere.

    B. The government will need to "listen" long enough hear the life saving science they need for earth. A science they will need the cooperation of the Na'vi to execute.

Now, I need you to help fill in some blanks here... The most exciting climax of this sequel culminates into the exciting rescue effort of Jake, while simultaneously trying to reach the decision making government leaders with the information, the corporate run military sect being the enemy and obstacle of both efforts. During the fight, some of the enemy escape with Neytiri as their hostage.

In the end, the information reaches the intended targets in the nick of time, many of the corporate and military villains are caught and/or killed in the process, and Jake is released/rescued but is ill due to the exposure of the earth's atmosphere. He must get back to Pandora to regain his health.

The Leaders of Earth have a new found, allied relationship with Na'vi, respectful of their planet and the Na'vi will provide the resources necessary to effect the salvation of earth.

The movie ends with earth leaders pledging to find the escaped criminals and return Neytiri to Pandora, Jake wants to go but is admonished to go back and lead the people while Tsu tey's brother accompanies the rescue of Neytiri. Neytiri, who is on a space vessel, being held in some kind of crio-state, suddenly, opens her eyes... credits role...

That was the coolest idea I have read on these forums.

I especially like the human Avatar part, there are some holes in that story, but nothing that couldnt be covered up with Cameron-ness, good idea!

Thats a pretty cool sequel idea you got there. I really doubt JC will do anything predictable for the sequel, but I do think the scientist there will discover something extraordinary.
As far as an archvilian, I dont see JC doing something basic like that, good guys vs. bad guys thing. Like Quartrich was not really a bad guy, he was fighting for what he believed in.

Oh, I think JC will do something completely predicatable and simple such as good vs evil. Have you seen his track record? However, that doesn't mean that the movie wont be great.

With regard to the OP, I think something like that story could occur, except that Jake wont be taken to earth, but one of the other moons near Pandora. That would be consistent with the rumour that the story may take place on other moons.

Imagine you could do that. Using Eywa, you could effectively live forever in a young body. There is another reason for humans to invade Pandora. Immortality.
