By the time that the 2nd movie is due to be set in (I think it's 10 years after the events of the first) Jake should be extremely fluent in Na'vi and would probably only speak in Na'vi when talking to other Na'vi including Neyteri. One question is will the humans who remained still be alive, after-all I'm not sure if they can eat the local foods. The Avatar drivers (inc Norm if his Avatar did survive) could have their consciousness transferred permanently into their Avatars, if that were to happen then they might be expected to only speak Na'vi from then on.

It's always possible that Grace if she returns (her soul is with Eywa and her Avatar AFAIK is still alive to potentially her consciousness could be downloaded into her Avatar), then she would probably only speak in English with other Avatars, humans and possibly with Jake.

I have no source but I've read too that JC stated that A2 will be set several years after the first. He didn't say exactly how many years later it would be but he said that it wouldn't start immediately after the first one like many of us thought it might.

LOL, I registered on the forum wanting to ask this question not realizing there was a thread about it.

After I watched Avatar again yesterday I can't see how else things could be.

Having all or most of the sequel in Na'vi is the only right way to do it. I do enjoy to watch non-English films with subtitles and I've watched Avatar with people who don't speak English and had to read the subtitles. I see why it can be viewed as a problem for the general English-speaking audience, but it doesn't prevent anyone from enjoying the film, and it is the only way that makes sense. But I've seen complaints for Avatar like "Why is a film for children shown with subtitles?" My guess is that this kind of people won't like it very much.

But the avatars and humans will probably speak English to one another. Even though they are now friends with the Na'vi, they won't have that much to talk to each other. So even for ten years, they could still be speaking English. But then if this were any other kind of situation they would be using the local language after that long. (If you move to France, you'd use French only in much less than that, wouldn't you?) So unless the story focuses too much on the Na'vi (which I doubt), there will be plenty of English spoken, too.

If the second film is set several years after the first then chances are that all the humans that were allowed to remain (only ones we can be certain of are about 4-5 avatar drivers, Norm and Max) will be very fluent in Navi and I'd expect any dialogue between then and a Na'vi to be purely in Na'vi. From the deleted scene where Jake is explaining about how to take down a helicopter he seems to be fluent in Na'vi so I reckon at some point in the film the english dialogue between Jake and any of the Na'vi was only done in English for the benefit of the viewer.

It's the language of the Sky People. The Na'vi don't like the Sky People. Now I want to think that the Na'vi are more mature than to dislike the language because they dislike us, even more so after they saw that there are those among us who they can consider friends, but they have no reason to speak English. They have their own language, and to be honest I find it much cooler than English. Why should they speak English?

And why would the remaining humans want to teach them English? If they ever restore the school (I hope they do -- it was such a cool place, I want to see a lesson there in the sequels), English is no longer a priority. Humankind didn't prove worthy enough, you know, and those who are left can learn Na'vi.

It might be cool to have only Na'vi spoken in the sequels, but I think that it should actually alternate between English and Na'vi, depending on the situation. It would be a bit easier for the actors and more convinient for the audience this way, and so the audience can keep up and possibly connect a lot better with the movie and don't have to struggle constantly reading subtitles. So, whenever Jake is speaking with Norm Max, Neytiri, and even Mo'at, the conversations should be in English, and whenever Jake or someone is speaking with Na'vi who don't understant English, the conversations should be in Na'vi, with subtitles of course.
