Selfridge didn't get the job he has with out being an expert on the "art of the spin". He's a corporate weasel, his report back to earth is going to put him in the best light possible under the circumstances. He will probably blame the whole debacle with the Navii on Jake going "Native" and Quaritch "going rogue" and escalating a situation that he was trying to "Valiantly" (in his mind) to keep a lid on and resolve it peacefully through negotiation. Since just about anyone who has a diffrent point of view is either dead or on Pandora with no way of directly contacting earth that I know of there realy isn't anyone to contradict his story. I have no doubts about Selfridge's ability to convince his master's back on earth that he is striving to work in the corporations best interest's but that no one could have anticipated that Jake Sully would foment a war between the RDA and the Navii. Plus he is still "on site" (in orbit around the planet) and is in the best position to deal with the situation quickly before it spins even more out of control. Thats how I would spin it if I were Selfridge...
DeMouse introduced this thread by saying it would be nice seeing JC show Earth (Gaia) as a sentient being like was depicted in Avatar’s Eywa in the coming sequels. He thought that it would be a shame if JC stayed strictly with the Avatar (I) themes through the trilogy and widen the scope some to include the glimpses of Earth. I agree that it would be cool and agree that JC will not stay with the pure Avatar (I) theme. “Thread Evolution” pretty much drowned out the root of this thread…pity.
Before I say anything more, I love Avatar and will watch it for the rest of my life! <thumps fist on chest in solidarity> Please remember this as I continue! ;-)
JC mentions that the sequels will begin initially with the flow as started in “Avatar”, with some of the characters making an appearance in some way, possibly visiting the Pandoran oceans and possibly the other moons circling Polyphemus. So cool. This leads to some interesting speculation. DeMouse was only speculating.
In his brief discussions, DeMouse seems to share my opinion that Eywa is a single, planet-encompassing sentient organism. Correct me if I’m wrong DeMouse. I believe that JC may not stay strictly with the Na’vi thread and is looking at a big leap in imagination. This leap is likely to be about Eywa. My speculation believes we will be leaving the jungles/oceans/Na’vi of Pandora to something about the nature of Eywa/universe. I am sure, JC will treat us to what we love in the first movie (Do not take Neytiri from us JC…you haven’t seen this crowd!), but we will “grow up” with a bigger broader mind-blowing story. I’m just saying.
I do not think JC will go back to Earth only because Jake told Eywa that, “They killed their Mother!” making me believe that Earth (Gaia) was a similar being, a “Sister” of Eywa but is no longer relevant to JC’s direction. DeMouse, I think it would be good back story, but limited time of expanding a story line is probably out. Thanks for turning me on to this thread!

I believe there are two principal tasks JC must accomplish in the sequels and that they are fairly predictable: 1) the redemption of humans and Earth and 2) some attempt to recapture the emotion of the Jake/Neytiri relationship. Point 1 would be consistent with his past films where, for example, he "redeems" synthetics (Ash was bad in Alien; Bishop was good in Aliens) and, of course, he "redeems" terminators (Arnold bad in T1; Arnold good in T2). My feeling is that he will also flesh out the true reason for needing unobtainium: not just corporate greed, but a life or death need for it. I am 100% sure that humans will be seen in a more favorable light at some point in A2 or A3. There is no other place to go with the story in my opinion. That leaves a huge canvas for JC to paint with. As for point 2, the love story, the obvious route would be to place Jake/Neytiri in a series of mortal danger sitautions and have them save each other (repeatedly) as with A1. What he needs to avoid is basically everything that George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels.
Personally I think that the idea 'Upxare made a really good story about it. Where the humans have a good relation with the na'vi and even have forrests again.
Only thing that shouldn't look nice is the time travelling. That just doesn't seem right in a movie that will be shown millions of time in the cinemas![]()

James cameron said something about the change of name from avatar to na'vi because jake is no longer driving a avatar he is full navi
While he is now as much a Omaticaya as anyone won't he always be an Avatar so to speak as well? His DNA didn't change, he still has 5 finger and toes...just curious your thoughts.

Avatar 2 - James Cameron's Avatar Wiki - Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana go on production "The director also went on to say that the film will most likely not be called "Avatar 2", since Jake is no longer an avatar at the end of the first movie, but rather a Na'vi".
