Question Number of Digits in the future ?

I was wondering, since Jake and the other drivers have 5 fingers and toes, and The People have 4, will the number change in the future generations with the mixing of the Avatar's with the People? Will Neytiri's and Jake's children have 5 or 4 - or some of each (with the percentages of probability)? This may take several generations, but in the future, The People could have 5 digits, instead of 4, or stay, and genetically reject the "little fingers and toes" as not useful (although some may still be born with the difference).

since the Jake Sully Avatar was mostly Na'vi dna,and that combined with Neytiri's dna,the kids will have four digits, but there could be a chance if twins were born, one would have five fingers and the other four. it's a good question, and i sure hope they don't answer this question until the end of the three films. the trilogy should end with either something like the New Life deleted scene,or the child or children learning to ride pa'li with their parents, and we see their hands on the reins and feet on the saddle.

It's difficult to say really because we don't know what James Cameron wants to do.

Going with what we know I can make these reasonable conclusions:

The Avatars were engineered for research purposes so they may not be able to reproduce, but if they can the offspring would most likely carry the dominate genes from the parent with the strongest blood line or strongest genes. In this case Neytiri is full blood Na'vi while Jake is only a half breed. More than likely any offspring will have three fingers and a thumb (same thing with their feet). The genetic markers to create a fourth finger may never be seen. Then again, their first born may have four fingers and a thumb.

Perhaps this can help to show how things are passed on:

    This is more straight forward:

The study of genetics is primarily for mapping out genetic disorders or genetic markers that make us predisposed for specific diseases. When you find these types of charts they're showing how the markers for that disease is passed on (it's not as precise as the illustrations show it's completely random), but it's just like any other genetic traits so it's good enough to get a basic idea without talking to a geneticist.

    My easiest explanation:

Look at how long humans have been engaging in multiracial breeding and we aren't all one race. So it would take a very long time to change them from one to another completely. It would probably be safe to put a number like one out of every 1,000,000,000 Na'vi could have an extra finger or what would be more likely is they would be a carrier for that recessive trait. Most likely because the gene for four fingers and a thumb would come from one carrier to a group of none carriers and that trait would only be introduced for a brief period by Jake it's unlikely you'd see any change and it would remain a recessive trait.

Recessive trait: Requires both parents to be a carrier in order to potentially see it in the offspring. (in this case it would require inbreeding; Jake and Neytiri's children would have to mate with each other)

However it is I know one thing... If I was Jake... I'd eventually find out.

I'm wondering if it's just too early to start suggesting this kind of stuff.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
