From what I've heard and so forth, it sounds like, that Grace would be coming back like Obi-Wan did in the Star Wars series ep. 5 and 6; as a ghost of sorts. I've heard some rumors that sound akin to that.

And I'm back after a long hiatus from this place.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
    - Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"

"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"

"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."
    - Dr. Grace Augustine, "Avatar"

I'm counting on her return being more like Gandalf's return than Obi-Wan's. After all her avatar is still alive and well as far as we know. She'll be back in the flesh, but of course in her avatar.

As for the ending of the 2nd film, I'm assuming it takes place very soon after Avatar, which means the RDA won't be back to Pandora. It will take 6 years if they leave immediately, or 12 if they leave when the Venture Star arrives at Earth. Either way, that's for the 3rd film to deal with.

The 2nd film will involve a second, secret RDA base, probably located underwater. After losing contact with Hell's Gate, they've begun to use guerrilla tactics against the Na'vi while keeping their existence secret. Near the beginning of the 2nd film, they capture Neytiri and the just-returned Grace, while Jake just barely escapes. Alerted to their presence, Jake gathers Norm (whose avatar is still recovering) and some of his best warriors to find the base and rescue the captives. Meanwhile, Grace and Neytiri attempt to sabotage the base and escape. At some point, Grace determines that Neytiri is pregnant. You can guess how the rest of the film will generally play out. Once everything is resolved, we jump ahead to the birth. The camera moves in close to the baby's eyes, she opens them for the first time, and cut to black. Just like the last shot of Avatar.

    Avatar count: IMAX 3D (digital) 9, IMAX 3D (film) 3, IMAX Dome (2D) 1, RealD 3D 1, DVD 1, Blu-ray 4
Avatar Special Edition Count: IMAX 3D (film) 1
