Well, if most of the movie will take place in the oceans or an an other moon...
... does that mean we don't get to see much of Jake and Neytiri?

I started having these dreams of flying. I was free.
But sooner or later, you always have to wake up.
Curiously, Colonel Quaritch may also be back. ..............ohsh*t

I personally hope that Cameron and whatever writers may be assisting him with the script sit down and take a long look at the story arc that was supposedly laid out alongside Avatar. As much as I loved Avatar, I simply don't feel that the same magic will be captured if this next installment uses a similarly worn-out, color-by-numbers plot. In my mind, the following things need to happen for the sequel to truly succeed as a film:
- The utilization of fewer pre-used elements and plot sequences. This was Avatar's biggest flaw, a flaw that I feel can be remedied in the sequel if time is spent on it. I feel that the sequel's focus on the Na'vi culture will assist to some degree with this, but work will still need to take place if there is any chance of this film succeeding as a piece of sci-fi storytelling.
- A reduction in the polarization of factions. Some cut content existed in the scriptment that made the RDA (Specifically Selfridge) less of a force of evil and the Na'vi less than immaculate beings, and so while I can only hope for this material to be present in the August re-release and special edition Blu-Ray, I feel that content displaying something more than a black and white view of the conflict making the cut this time around would be very beneficial.
- Over-all improvements in characterization. The two other issues that I've highlighted above could be tackled to a tremendous extent if more interesting and intricate dynamics present themselves alongside greater depth of character across the board.
With those points stated, I feel that Avatar's sequel does have a great deal going for it and if executed correctly, has the potential to both top its predecessor in multiple ways and stand out as a solid example of a sequel done correctly.
CAN NOT WAIT! But 2014. That's a long time 8( I am saddened but also excited.

Cameron has a pretty good track record when it comes to sequals. The biggest problems I have with sequals is just how there seems to be less of a plot or no plot at all, or that nothing actually happens. For a good sequal you have to keep the story flowing, you must have something happening and have the story/characters/universe evolving so it will lead into the third installment; you can see good examples of that in The Empire Strikes Back and Aliens. Truely bad versions of how not to work through a sequal can be seen in movies like Dead Man's Chest, which even though gives us the character Davey Jones does not much to establish more into the series until the third installment comes around.
I have heard rumors about "bugs" being in the sequal, and stuff about Jake missing being around other humans and stuff like that, but I'm going to hold out on most rumors until I can hear some good and substaniated rumors on Avatar 2. However, the stuff about the bugs intrigues me, since if this comes to be true it may be James Cameron's take on a space war. I would like to see Cameron's take on a few sci-fi tropes, such as intergalactic empires and advanced alien civilizations.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.
"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
- Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"
"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"
"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."
- Dr. Grace Augustine, "Avatar"
We will see what happens in the sequel when it comes out in 2014.

I know that:
- James Cameron, a man with a track record for sequels and the only director with one on the AFI's top ten sci-fi titles is directing the film.
- Key actors are returning
- It will happen within a rich sci-fi universe
- It should have extensive financial and fan support based upon the remarkable success of Avatar.
While I don't know anything about the content of Avatar's sequel (Aside from Cameron doing a few things ~7 miles below the surface of the ocean, but that just sounds like him exploiting corporate resources.) I sure as heck can feel confident about a movie based on the bullet points above. Please stop trolling.
