Is Avatar 2 a PREQUEL?

I was surprised too when I saw the new Marketsaw article on Avatar as of late.

According to an interview with James Cameron, Avatar 2 may have some elements of a prequel, which could explain why Sigourney Weaver's character, Grace Augustine will be coming back. The entire plot seems like it might be non-linear, showing stuff that happened before Jake came to Pandora.

I'd enjoy some elements of a Prequel. There's a lot of back story I'd like to see, such as the first meeting between the humans and the Na'vi, seeing more of Grace's time as teacher, Neytiri's sister, and more of the Na'vi and the Omaticaya people. I think they could also include some more of the story that occurred during the first movie with more of a focus on the Na'vi side of the story. This might even be an excuse to finish the scenes that were left out of the first movie, like the Dream hunter scene

However, I agree with others that I wouldn't want the whole thing to be a Prequel, as I am eager to see what happens next for Jake and Neytiri.

If there are flashbacks, I hope they are done right. Because they just ruin the flow of anything; albiet movie or tv - even a game or a damn book.

I wouldn't want the whole thing to be a prequel but some back story would be great. we could see everyone that died again, Trudy, Grace, Quaritch, Tsu'Tey, ect.

This... I don't mind some flashbacks or such... But i hope it's not a prequel.

I don't really see how a prequel could make it into a film. The discovery of Pandora, the creation of Hell's Gate, the defense against the Pandoran creatures, the first contact with the Na'vi, the creation of the avatars, the school and the massacre are all interesting elements for fans like us, but probably not for a large public. I can't see any real "action" in an Avatar prequel. And it is needed to be a commercial success. Besides, all I have mentioned is spread out for decades, it would look more like a documentary than a film.

So some flash-back may be possible (and could be great if well done), but I'm almost sure it won't be a prequel.

What I'm thinking is that it might be set up somewhat like a prequel in the beginning, perhaps we see an expedition led by Grace and think it's going to be the entire movie, ending with Grace leaving a entry video blog... Only to segue into Jake watching the blog several years afterwards.

I am new to the forum and wanted to find out about the future releases of Avatar 2/3.

I LOVED the movie and as I heard about the potential for a trilogy I started to get excited. But then it dawned on me that a sequel to the movie would have very little scope for a story line... BUT a prequel has HUGE scope for a very interesting story line that could actually draw more people into the story line.

This info about it having elements of of a prequel is music to my ears as prior to this I was thinking that a sequel would flop if it followed a sequel linear story line.

JAMES CAMERON PLEASE MAKE IT A PREQUEL or at the very least I hope the rumors are true.

I would love to see the origins, how it all began, first contact with Pandora and the Navi, the learning curve would quite steep and no doubt countless lives were lost before the RDA could establish themselves on Pandora, the backstory would be very interesting imo.
