I have been thinking about just this question for some time. We have seen the sky people using some tech to transfer a human brain into a Na'vi body. We have seen Eywa transfer the memories/thoughts of Grace through the tree of souls into Eywa's network.

So I wonder if there might be some way to transfer the essense of both humans and Na'vi maybe from one tree of souls on Pandora, to another tree of souls on one of the other planets near Pandora.

Of course the difficulty there is that there would have to be host bodies waiting on the other side.
Hmmmm. I can think of any number of ways that that could have happen, but I cannot make it believable without some serious additions to the back plot.

    Anyway, it is an idea.

First Cameron has nt made a full on action film since True Lies in 1994, and as far as Im concerned he owes his long time fans (have been one ever since I saw the terminator as a 5 year old) like me a proper action film again in the same vein as Aliens and T2.

Second, unlike some here I do not in any way or shape want Avatar 2 to be the same film, if you want that watch Avatar, a good and proper sequal should indeed be a totally diffenrent film, just set in the same universe with the same characters. Look at Aliens, T2, The dark knight, all considered among the best and few truly great sequals ever made.

Third, Cameron absolutely has to expand the Avatar universe ala StarWars or Star Trek. Otherwise it would get stale and repetitive if it was only ever on Pandora, and only ever involved the Na'vi. By all means lets see the other moons, lets introduce other alien races..

Fourth, Avatar is very influenced by (Cameron even said Avatar is a modernization of it) John Cater of Mars. If you read the sequal the Gods of Mars, you will see that full blown war is a big part of that book, as is much further exploration of the world Burroughs had created. Thus it would be quite natural to see Avatar 2 follow the same path imho..

And finally, have any of you seen Aliens or T2? Easily the two best sci-fi sequals (along with Empire strikes back) ever made. So chill out and relax, Cameron is one of the few that gets how to make sequals...
I am intrigued by the idea of a full blown war but I'm not sure I want it. You said that you want the film to change but if it changes too much then it won't be Avatar. I want there to be fighting but I also want more of Pandora to be revealed, like the Flora and Fauna and the incredible scenary.

I do not want a full blown war. The Matrix sequels introduced a full blown war. 'Nuff said.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.

To me, it's gonna have to be a balance between war and peace; it can't be Micheal Bay-solsions all over the place, it has to have a rhyme and reason.

In case, take the two sequals Cameron directed: Terminator2: Judgement Day and Aliens. If a sequal is ever going to succeed better than the original, it has to expand the world, the story and the characters. In Terminator 2, the character of Sarah Conner, as we see her has changed considerably from the first movie; wheras she was the waiteress turned into a wiser and concerned person by the end of the movie regarding her child and the fate of humanity; in the ensuing years afterwards, she has become increasing paranoid and frantic, and is eventually sent to a mental insistution. Her son, John Conner starts the film off as a rather punkish kid. The Terminator, or T-800 that's sent back to safe-gaurd John Conner, is rather cold and emotionless, deticated to one mission and one mission only, to keep John Conner safe at all costs. By the time the movie ends, all three characters have changed, they've gone through the transformation box, as one book on storytelling notes, to become very different characters at the very end: John is more mature, more self-aware of his responsibilities; Sarah Conner has become a steadier more realized less fatalistic character than she was in the begining; and the T-800 has become more human, to the point that John asks him not to scarifice himself, though doing so will save the future. In Aliens, we have Ripley as the lone survivor of the Nostromo, with the horrible memories of what happened to her crewmates and suffering post-traumatic stress. No one believes her (isn't it interesting that both movies involve women, or main protagonists who aren't believed by the majority until something horrible happens? Methinks we might see that in the Avatar sequal), up until she is sent down to the planet to invesitigate the disapearance of a mining colony. By the time the movie ends, she has overthrown her fears to save Newt from the Alien Queen, and ends up dispatching the Queen herself.

In order to have the characters grow, Cameron has to use his tired and true method of taking them down a journey has has them facing fears and responsibilities, to the point that they have to change in order to survive or become better persons. Not that it already happened in the first movie, but also that it's just pratical, that's what makes a good movie is when the character overcomes obsticals and become a better, learned person.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

    Huh.
Maybe they'll start with war and end with a negotiation.

Anybody knows? Avatar (the title) refers to the program or to this specific person who avatarized himself on a permanent basis?
