Well, if that is how long it takes to make it as good as or better than the first film then so be it. Work your magic Mr Cameron!

Yes, he will have to take that long to make it as good or better. It's the post-production that takes so long. The motion capture he utilizes is very sophisticated and it takes a long time to get it to look visually stunning. I'm glad he's taking the time to do these films properly and not rush them to the theatre.

The way the dates are scheduled makes it seem as if the final movie is going to be rushed? If he needs to take more time for the third I'd rather that he'd do the same that he's doing for the second movie.

I think he's filming them back to back, so that year he will probably just doing the finishing touches.
