View Full Version : My Theory of Eywa

This is my first post on the forums, but I had an idea last night that I thing might be correct. I thnk that Eywa is actually just a collective consciousness made up of all of the individual consciousnesses of the deceased organsims of Pandora. This is why I think this:

1. Firstly, the Na'vi can hear their ancestors through the Tree of Voices, etc. Why would this only be Na'vi that get "absorbed" into Eywa?
2. Eywa does not take sides and only "protects the balance of nature" because it(?) is made up of many species e.g. the Eywa would not help predators to catch prey or vice versa because Eywa is both the predators AND the prey.
3. Eywa helped the Na'vi fight the humans because the humans threatened ALL of the species on Pandora, so the was almost like a "unanimous vote" on the subject.
4. How would the creatures of Pandora know what to do to join the battle? Why would they understand a human consciousness? Since human Consciousnesses are similar to those of the Na'vi, the "format" if you like would be changed to Na'vi AND THEN TO THAT OF THE INDIVIDUAL CREATURE. They would be "compatible" with their own species' consciousnesses, and be able to understand.

Please be free to agree or disagree with this theory, and pose any problems you may have with it.

Deceased consciousness? How can something that is deceased have a consciousness?

The other stuff is basically true. But no one really knows...I prefer to think it's just another "God" that we will never find out about in this life.

By the consciousnesses of deceased organisms I mean like what happened to Grace - the mind sort of gets "absorbed" into Eywa as they die.

Very interesting theory. I would like to pose a question; Do you think that when Na'vi make tsaheylu at places like the tree of souls/voices, do you think that they can actually have tangible conversations with the stored minds, or rather have more of an emotive, "feeling" connection not involving words?

I think, based on what we heard when Jake did it, you can kind of "hear" them, but not really communicate with them. This is probably because either they do not know that you are there, or because there are so many "voices" speaking at once.

Hm. You're seriously the best at explaining things in a short, sweet way that everyone can really understand!!!! :embarrassed: I tend to... over-elaborate on everything, but you've got some excellent points. I came up with the same basic theories back in January, and later posted a more extended version of it here (http://www.tree-of-souls.com/plot_and_script_discussion/204-eywa_theory.html#post2673). A bit long, but still (I think) a good read. I agree with everything you've said...

...It really is a funny thing, though, because I went into immense detail surrounding certain elements in the film that could disprove the theories. But you pretty much brought up the exact same things I did, as well as the same explanations. Now I'm convinced I'm not alone in this. :d
