I was actually looking forward to this game somewhat but after reading and watching the large amount of lackluster reviews that the game received I think I'll pass on it until the price is reduced.

Same here, but I also started getting disenchanted with the series starting about at FF9... The games just got worse and worse. 13 holds no hope for me.

Agreed, the exploration is SO linear (Meaning you basically RUN down straight hallways) and the combat is boring. You can even tell the game to play for you basically, it like, queues (Pun intended :D) up your moves. I'm really worried, only redeeming features are the cutscenes. They're so beautiful. It has never been more apparent that Square Enix just wants to make movies.

The game is like this:

Cutscene.
Hallway walk.
Fight.
Level up.
Repeat.

If this was a movie like Advent Children, I'd really like it, but no, not as a game.

I had the same problem a lot of people were having, that it just goes to slow and whatnot. But once I got to chapter 3 the game really picked up for me, things started being a challenge, battles were much faster and more frantic.

I think it's a really good game.

I went and got the game for my room mate while he's stuck at work. Popped it in the PS3 to find out what it was like for myself, and... well, honestly, even with the narrow hallways and extremely linear playstyle, I find it a rather interesting game. I'm loving the combat style!

I only got about three hours into it though. Hope to play some more later on tonight~

I'm on Chapter 7 now and I have mixed feelings. I love the combat system and leveling up, but I don't care much for the story. Does not feel like a Final Fantasy to me.

Actually, the best one to start with is 10, if you're just now starting, it's the most in depth and memorable one. Plus it's the last one before Square soft made the mistake of merging with Enix.. I would go from 10, to 7, then 8, skip 9 cause no one liked it, and start on X-2 (You will be disappointed, but like I said it's the first Square ENIX game made.) 12 got a little better, but changed the whole Final Fantasy systems around in many ways. but I think 13 brings it back to the normal square soft type version that everyone loves.

If it's any where near as good as 8-12, there's no way in hell I'm playing it.

12 is a bad one, and 11 is a bad one, and X-2 is a bad one. 8 (9 was ghey) and 10 were great! And 13 is like 10. mixed with the technological advancements of 7

Its starting to pick up a bit, but I HATE certain points in this game, trapsing through endless hallways. Some of the characters are getting annoying too, case of point, Vanille.

8: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH JUNCTION MOAR SPELLS DRAW MORE MAGIC PLAY MORE TRIPLE TRIAD.
Worst game ever gameplay-wise.

10: Gameplay itself was pretty good, but seriously, screw the main character.

I lol'd. I hate Tidus. I hate Squall. I like Cloud. I like Lightening.

Tidus was a crybaby, but Everyone else was great. I love the summon circles.

As for 13, it's more closely related to 7 in the game play, but to the end the monsters pretty much require you to summon... Just cause they get crazy stupid. I need to train more. Also you have CP points, which acts as like a sphere grid from X and X-2 but it's manageable, and 13 is fast paced, I like it better that way

No problem, that's pretty much the list you will get, it's going from good graphics to bad graphics, but it's cause of when the games were made

Same for me....... I did enjoy FFX and thought the characters were decent there. FF9 and FF12 remain games that are collecting dust, unfinished.

Gamespot gave it an 8.5 with a user rating of 8.9 and IGN gave it 8.3
Metacafe has an overall score of 82
though I haven't played a FF game in a while, I don't even play my PS2 much anymore

The effect this game has on me is strange. Sure, I was always an FF fan, even when I was younger but I always had to play a game before I liked it. In this case it's different, almost like a love at first sight thing where I just saw the trailer and instantly loved it.
Unfortunately I dont have a PS3 or 360 but I'll be getting one and the game by the end of the month. Gah I hate waiting!

I reached chapter 12 after +/- 40 hours of playing. But I find the difficulty curve way too steep.
Where the first 8 chapters were a piece of cake, too easy actually for my taste (and I played FF 6, 7, 8, 9, X, X-2 and XII),
well then it certainly feels like the game turns 180° and makes it so incredibly hard it becomes frustrating.
The lack of any kind of mobile vehicle like an airship to visit earlier explored locations makes that the grinding part to level up becomes quite hard.
And leveling up is required in order to proceed in the storyline. So you better be lucky to have a couple nice xp giving enemies in the few paths behind you.

Even with alot of leveling up, I still get it so hard sometimes. Feels I have to swam around my paradigms between every two enemy groups because the last group needed a totally different strategy while the next requires you to keep a sentinel to tank the sick damage that kills you otherwise.

I am a huge FF fan for many years now and I think that the quality of the FF games went down as soon as Hironobu Sakagushi left Square and Square got merged with Enix in that same year. What I want is an FF like number 7, 8 and 9. O well, I guess I'll bite through the apple and carry on just for the story.

Vanille is cute though. And so is that chocobo chick, lol.

There's a major difficulty spike during the battle with the Primarch aboard the Palamecia. I quite like the challenge though as it wouldnt be worth playing if it was plain sailing throughout the game. On Gran Pulse there's another difficulty surge and it almost feels like you're there a couple of levels too low. The enemies there are really tough and you're there forever trying to level up.

I was disappointed that there wasnt true free-roam capabilities in the game, the chance to go back to places like the crystal forest or Nautilus, they're both extraordinary places!

However what's good about the game out-weighs everything that is bad, I love the game and it's well worth losing a couple of days of my life playing it. :)

I initially liked Lightning more than Vanille but that has changed as the game progressed. Snow is also kick-***! :nlol:
