Great news people! There is intelligent life in the universe besides humans! What???? Yes! It's called the dolphin! That's right, a dolphin

a) passes the self-awareness mirror test
Mirror test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_test)

And

b) has a high iq, one species the Makai dolphin it is reported to have an average iq of almost 97. The average adult human iq is 100 give or take.

Safe to say, it's time to welcome the dolphin into the "brotherhood of man" and time to get them out of the water parks and set them free.

If you ever get the opportunity to meet a dolphin in person give them a hug and tell them "I love you" If they've been around people long enough they will definitely understand you.

I just sent a message to Sea World San Diego to set their dolphins free, just want to add my voice to the chorus... I hope you will too.

I honestly think it's time that we abandon the whole idea of "human rights." Instead we need to pursue "sentient life rights."

Who's with me? :nsmile:

Yes, sentient life rights, but more specifically it should probably be stated more like in the following article, where scientists are calling for dolphins to be given special protected status as non-human persons:

Scientists say dolphins should be treated as 'non-human persons' - Times Online (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/article6973994.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=797084)

We do not want to put all animals in the same category with humans, nor do we want deny special protected status to animals that are undeniably human in every way except their body. If we don't want to judge a book by its cover, this is the way to go. In other words, we are not saying that dolphins should have the human rights in the UN Charter, but we ARE saying that they should be left alone and free in the wild, and that killing them is... basically... murder.

Jeesh! Sometimes it seems that way doesn't it? Not too many intelligent life forms in society today.... I think that dolphins should serve as a model for people... this is how we should aspire to be: Peaceful Humans.

Here's another interesting dolphin clip:

I can just hear the conversations going on between dolphins and their relations now, about all this "intelligence" business, mirror and IQ tests....it's a joke!!!. They must think we're pretty simple and uncomplicated creatures and all they're doing in theses tests is just hamming it up for the sake of the researchers.

I can just hear a conversation now...

Human: "Hmmmm....they seem to be very intelligent. They should be classed as non human persons"

Dolphin: "Hey guys, what do these jokers think they are...they think they're so smart...ha!!!"

Human: " Well, my fellow scientists, they're not as smart as us though. Their IQ's aren't as high from the tests we have given them. As you know, several of ourselves have IQ's of 200 or more, but the dolphins only seem to manage around 97-100, which is about the average for a human"

Dolphin: "Hey guys, did you hear that?? 97-100, what an insult!!!. They "apparently" have IQ's as high as 200....retards!!!"

Yes, but even if they can match the intellect of humanity, (or possibly surpass for all we know) They would seem to lack the drive of our species.

They don't need it....they have developed along an entirely different path.

Watch this:

YouTube - The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (Part 1)

Now going into the actual book, man had always considered himself to be smarter than dolphins because of all the wars he had accomplished and cities he had built where as all the dolphins had done was swim around and eat fish. The dolphins have always thought of themselves as smarter for precisely the same reason.

Agreed with all the recent comments, dolphins vs. humans are an example of two different paths that intellect can take. Dolphins don't have the ego drive that creates war and crazy competition.

There's actually three intelligent life forms on Earth. In order of least intelligent to most intelligent, you have humans, dolphins, and mice. You see, the mice actually commissioned the planet builders to create the Earth, a giant supercomputer using life as its circuits, to calculate the ultimate question. They already had the ultimate answer, oddly enough. It was 42. They just needed the question, so they wouldn't look silly.
We were too stupid to listen to the dolphins about the Vogons though. Such a shame.
