View Full Version : Anyone else think this...

I am somewhat opposed to a plot line that furthers the role of Eywa as a more sentient being. I do not think they need to delve into things like "Eywa anticipated this..." and "Eywa will do this." I see Eywa as the global consciousness, but a balance protector. Eywa does not interfere really at all, unless the balance on Pandora is in danger of collapsing. It is a protector, not necessarily a being that works behind the scenes to orchestrate events in my opinion. So, overall I might want to now more about Eywa but I do not want to see said consciousness take a greater role in a sequel. Thoughts?

But how do you protect the balance without being able to analyze future scenarios and try to manipulate them to achieve that outcome?

I think it's almost inevitable she will in some way, maybe not as much as in Avatar, but most likely in a more subtle way. As it is, she is a sentient being, can't deny that, even if most of the time one that doesn't take any direct action.

In total agreement with you xcrunner08, I think we may be able to learn more about Eywa without losing the mystery of what Eywa is.
I agree with you that Eywa is a global consciousness, perhaps more, but I do not wish either that Eywa becomes like a supercomputor or one that is consulted at every turn like a wise old Wizard.
In the upcoming movies, perhaps a few hints may be provided by Eywa to help in times of stress, but in a sort of way in which a sign or a omen is interpretated by a tsahik, after all Mo'at interprets the will of Eywa, and for us to discover more would negate that role.
I think Eywa only intervened in the movie because of an extraordinary event that would have cause irreversable damage to Pandora, that even by Neytiri's knowledge (and she's the next tsahik) had never occurred before in history, a sort of parting of the waves, a direct intervention by a higher force.
I would love to learn more about Eywa but only the Knowledge that a tsahik might know, I agree the mystery needs to be retained to some degree.

I'm in agreement with you guys. I've heard story suggestions about advanced civilizations and supercomputers and engineered biology. They're interesting ideas. But really, why can't Pandora and the Na'vi just be what they are?

I agree, Eywa shouldn't be something that solves everything. But I think James Cameron will keep her as a mystery till the end. Until then, I don't think she will be very obvious in the story.

I'm sincerely hoping that it doesn't come out that Eywa is a "supercomputer", that would ruin the mythical feeling of the series (perhaps in the same way "midicloridians" ruined Star Wars for some people).
But I'm also going to go against what you're saying here because I think Eywa has done this stuff before, being a highly noticiable presence in times of crisis. This is probably not the first time that something similar to what the humans did to Pandora, I think there were other alien civilzations that came to Pandora in the past (it wouldn't be too hard to imagine if unobtainium is such an incredible superconductor) did some pretty irreservible problems to Pandora in the past.

For some reason I keep seeing the end of Starship Troopers if the humans win.
A human pyschic walks up and touchs that tree of souls and scans through it's mind and then starts yelling "It's Afraid!" then we see an entire army of grunts start cheering.

Good thing that it's not gonna happen. Humans are the bad guys.

That could well be true that Eywa has intervened before, but I was meaning it would not happen often as Neytiri and the Omaticaya have no evidence of it. Unless Mo'at might know more.
Have to wholeheartedly agree that some mystery of Eywa must remain for something to remain outside the realms of scientific explanation.
I hope too that the mythical feeling of Avatar is not compromised.

Hopefully that won't happen. Avatar a MUCH better movie and story than Starship Troopers!
