I think there should be a secton for those of us older than 18. No, this is NOT a place for porn, but rather to discuss subject matter that might not be suitable for people under that age.

Meh, I don't think so.
This forum is for everyone, I don't we should to certain parts for 'mature' subject matter.

Not to mention, I don't believe your age defines your maturity.

I don't either in that there are people <18 who are mature enough, but unfortunately that's the age many people choose.

As for the suggestion itself, maybe. Sounds like an interesting idea, I know of a few threads/posts that were apparently not allowed without being actually explicit.

I personally don't think restriction of certain parts of this community is necessary, it should be open to all.

There's another problem with having an elder age section, people who are underage might just say they're overage to have a look at whatever's there
However I do agree with the idea of having a section where certain things may be discussed, or where fics that have explicit violence/sex are put
Also, make it a hidden forum so that only those who have input a date of birth over the age may look in, make it a requirement that people put one in.

What would be for 18 and older on this forum that isn't against the rules?

I'm not a fan of this idea. There are places where an 18+ section would work, such as a teen or fanfic forum, but I don't believe it would do this community much good. Anytime an "exclusive" forum is created, you run the risk of the members feeling left out and upset. I worked for a forum one time that decided to create an 18+ forum for its older members. The results were disastrous.

Avatar is a movie for all, so why should a forum for the movie be any different? :)

A mere suggestion is all it was. It really doesn't matter one way or another to me. I only suggested it because I am part of a forum that DOES have one and it works out just fine. There are some topics that come up that should only be for adult eyes. I guess those subject just won't be brought up here then.

There are ways to verify age. I had to input mine to register here. Sure there are ways around it.

Bad Call, You can't prove anyone's not 18 and we definitely don't need a 18+ section, If you want to talk about things that are only suitable for 18 and over then do it in MSN or some other chat option that's non-affiliated with this site.

I have seen adults on these forums who are more immature then the younger members, I don't think its necessary and I agree with Lalorz.

Age doesn't define your maturity. I always view age as just a number, judging someone by their age is something I never do. Ps for the smart asses i'm not sitting here saying 'yep let the 9 year olds in'

Meh the idea is good but in practice, not really. I wouldnt like a 18+ forums since I am only 17 but 18 is only a measure of your age, that's why the age limit for drinking alcohole differs from country to country.

eh this forum doesnt need an 18+ I think of this as more of a family friendly forum and if you are going to discuss something that you wouldnt want everyone to see than just dont post it.

your going to be getting a lot of under aged people in here...so it's kind of pointless....

Avatar was rated PG 13. Why not keep this forum's appeal to the same audience?

Fact is, most people here (to my knowledge) are already 18 and up. It'd be like singling out the minority of people who join for the exact same reasons we do. I say nay.

It doesn't seem like a good idea, but an idea none the less is an attempt to make the site better. You shouldn't burn him at the stake for attempting to make the site a better place.

I don't think we need one, but that's for everyone else to decide.

the idea sound nice on paper but in reality it would not be fare to everyone on the site, plus i have seen post from kids that are very deep and very smart. and have seen posts by adults that are just plain dumb. so both sides have the same things going for them.

Well i'd say we should have one. Just now my post about animal rights is deleted, its really graphic and disturbing about what they do to animals these days (did not even include pics), and i wanted to discuss it with others who are mature enough to talk about it. These things are happening around us and information and awareness can get the proper authorities to act.

This type of section is impossible to regulate, and most things that you guys wish to post there would still be against forum rules regardless.

IDK... I know you said no porn but... I'm just feeling that it would go that direction.... if not down a road that wouldn't matter. And who's to stop someone... ANYONE, from lying about their age anyway?

It's the internet... those stupid age things are lie- ridden anyway. There's only so much you can do...

Untrue, i think you should make a Mature forum, but not have an age limit.
As seen by my story, which has slight references to adult material, even guys under the age of 18 (i'm 16) can understand these topics, i personally see no reason to do this.

Agreed. Maybe have a notice to warn those who does not want to read/view those 'mature' contents?

^ This.

I'm under 18, don't consider myself mature mentally nor physically, but knowing myself if there was such a section, i would go there.

I think that a 'Mature' section of the forum would be great but I don't see it working in this particular forum for many reasons that have already been stated but it would be cool IMO.
