View Full Version : A Theory about the Other Moons in A2

I have a theory about Avatar 2 and the "Times of Great Sorrow" and the whole "other moons" talk from Cameron. It mainly deals with these three possibilities:

a) Sometime in the past, Pandora and the Na'vi were attacked five other times in the past, by one or many sufficiently advanced alien civilzations. Each time, they got taken out by the Toruk Makto and had to leave.

b) These alien civilzation(s) exist on the other moons of Pandora, but technically speaking the reason why there isn't any real info about them is because the RDA didn't bother to explore any further when they found out about unobtainium and they were already putting enough money into Pandora to do anything else.

c) The sequal will deal with the return of one or perhaps many of these alien civilzations, and Jake and Neytiri (and others might be) will be taken off to one of the other moons.

Now this is just a theory, but my main thoughts on the sequal will be that it will show more of Pandora (Valley of the Thanators, anyone?), we will meet some new characters, the furthering story of Jake and Neytiri's relationship, at least one moon explored, and new creatures.

Not bad. I would not mind the plot to go in that direction.

I think the theory is very reasonable and one that I have considered myself.

But I suspect, that there may be a bit of a twist. For example, perhaps it starts off with a continuation of a conflict betwen the Na'vi and the RDA which is interupted just as one side (probably the RDA) is gaining the upper hand. Then both sides find themselves fighting th same enemy.

It also occurs to me that the other alines don't have to be that advanced. Perhaps they can only get to Pandora in certain cirumstances, like when their moon is aligned to Pandora.

Also, they wont necessarily have technology like humans. they may have organic technology perhaps like the Arachnids in Starship Troopers or even JC's aliens. Or it may be a parasitical alien that possess people. And that may explain why the Na'vi can defeat them.

But I am not convinced we will be visiting other moons in any depth. They will want to make the next movie cheaper by using all the stuff from Pandora as much as possible. I don't think they will want to spend huge amounts of money and effort developing a new moon in depth. But it may be used as a backdrop to the main story.

JC has dropped a few teasers, but i don't think we should take them too seriously at this stage. For one, the story has still to be properly developed, and secondly, they are not going to tell us the story are they. They will want to keep us guessing and may even say things just to gage people's reactions.

For a part of my theory is a pet theory of mine to see a "Counter-Pandora", basically somewhat like Earth but what Earth would be like if it was a planetary federation, like the one in Star Trek but with a twist: you know how a "federation of planets" is always seemingly seen as being the best thing to happen to the galaxy, that everyone doesn't need money anymore, and everything is made with replicators and you can travel around the galaxy in a great spaceship and join a group of people with matching uniforms? Well what if everything isn't up to par, what if there is a "federation" of sorts out there in the galaxy but it's maintain through some brutal force (thinking of a paralell other dimension version of the Federation from Star Trek series)? Maybe one of the moons in the Polyphemus system is a port town (if you will) of this federation which has some seedier parts and the environment is basically blasted and collasped due to exploitation and negligance. If Pandora is a world of jungles, swamps, and ocean, this moon is a world of desert, saltflats, and drainage lagoons.

I'd rather it stay on Pandora, it's the planet we've all grown to love and I think A2 would be lacking without it.

I like the theory about the other moons being totally different from Pandora, like one being a total desert, another one being dominated by water, and another being a iceland, and perhaps another being a grassland with mountains and such, maybe to much variety here but those are all possibilities.

Kinda like how Pandora is ocean, swampland, grassland, and jungle. I'd like to see a totally alien desert planet, though the desert planet trope has been done to death in a lot of movies.

I also hope that Cameron expands the Avatar universe by showing us the other moons orbiting the gas giant, and I really hope we will get other alien races, especially a hostile, technologically advanced one.

Considering how much Avatart is inspired by John Carter of Mars, its interesting to read its sequal Warlord of Mars. There are some really cool story elements in it that could work amazingly well in an Avatar sequal.

The exciting thing is just how limitless the possibilities are. The Na'vi may have to team up with the RDA to fight a much more evil threat. I get the feeling Pandora may have been invaded before by another aline race based on some of the comments made in Avatar about the time of great sorrow that Netryi refers to. Thats my particular theory, and thus the basis for my thinking that we will be seeing other alien races.

At least I really hope so as I would love for the Avatar universe to become as rich and epic as the Star Wars and Star Trek universes.

Finally, I really want the Avatar sequal to have more action, and bigger action set piecs too. Hopefully the rumours at marketsaw.com about Avatar 2 being a war film turn out to be correct...

On the opposite of your theory I think something like the RDA will trek to other moons in the hope that the unobtainium will be there also, but they will find an enemy of the Na'vi that are looking for a way back in. hahaaa.

I'm just so excited to see more movie, i've seen avatar so many times I need new story and scenes. It makes me happy.

But really I dont mind exactly how it happens or what the motivation is, but I do think there needs to be more alien races introduced, and at least one has to be hostile and somewhat technologically advanced.

I think its very important that Jake have an awsome nemesis, preferably a non-human one. All great pulp serial heroes require one e.g Jack Sparrow-Davy Jones, Batman-The Joker, Luke Skywalker-Darth Vader, Flash Gordon-Ming etc....

I think it would be super cool to see some alien tech in the Avatar universe, though I am also really hoping its organic based tech. Something I dont feel has really been done in a live action film.

I also like the idea someone else had of having each moon have a totally different enviroment, one being a dessert world, another being an ice planet etc....

But my big question is how is Cameron going to come up with a way to allow for travel between the moons?

Anyone got any ideas?

This is a big question to answer. I believe this is where the humans will come into hand. By transporting and harnessing another alien race to species or something along those lines. The Pandora world is so huge after playing the game and all the lagoons and plains and oceans we never get to see that maybe they won't have to bring in another race. After all the books and information I have on the na'vi he can make a movie just about the inner conflicts from tribes, like maybe a left behind tribe of misfits and outcasts. Maybe even mutant na'vi.

Good ideas on the villains. To me, there has to be some things to be explored:

~ Expanasion on the Na'vi, we only saw so much of the Na'vi that they seem a little underdeveloped, I know there is only so much you can put on film, but you need to show other sides to the Na'vi.
~Other alien civilzations, I'm kinda for an atagonistic arrogant "Holier than thou" kind of civilzation, a kind of opposite Federation from Star Trek which tries to take over Earth and Pandora, and try to impose themselves as the best.
~ Expansion and perhaps more of Earth being shown.
~ A new villain, a kind of foil for Jake, maybe an alien Avatar?
