I was thinking, with the number of meetup threads and more being planned for Avatar 2 - http://www.avatar-forums.com/general-avatar-forum/5413-avatar-meetup-sequel-3.html (obviously a while in the future now), perhaps a subforum should be created for them to keep them all in one place and all the current ones moved there.

Cracking idea. It would reduce clogging up of the other subjects and make threads easier to find.

Mods! Get over here! :ntongue:

Yeah, might help keep things tidy. A little preemptive housekeeping... Good call!

Sounds like a good idea in theory, BUT......

By shifting them to their own forum, it could cause constructing get togethers to become more difficult.

Would people who aren't themselves trying to organize something read the forum? :rose-dead:

They would if they want to attend something in their area.

I think it's a great idea.

Though it matters little to me - The chance of meeting fellow swedish fans seems quite slim.

There's a few Finns and Swedes on here, you might get ten people or so.

I also like this idea. Someone post up a layout of how the regional forums should look. For instance West Coast, including California, Idaho, Washington, and Nevada. I think you get this idea.

I think there should be a subforum called "Meet-Ups" and it should feature West Coast US, East Coast US, Europe (West), Europe (East), Africa, Asia.

Thats my two cents. I really have no experience with layout, but I think that listing would reflect the substance thats needed.

This makes the most sense, although there is sufficient demand for a subforum for meetups I don't think there is a need for child forums within said subforum, atleast not at the moment.

I agree. We could just have a list of prefixes to choose from when creating a thread- West Coast US, East Coast US, Europe (West), Europe (East), Africa, Asia. Or, if we're really feeling wild, we could have a prefix for every state/providence in those areas. :ntongue:

I like a standardized approach to thread titles with prefixes, but I think we need to be more geographically diverse. Something like:

NA = North America
CA = Central America
SA = South America
WE = Western Europe
EE = Eastern Europe
XN = North Africa
XC = Central Africa
XS = Southern Africa
ME = Middle East
SE = South East Asia
NE = North East Asia
XW = Central/Western Asia
SP = South Pacific (this may be the broadest region of all)

As for the actual divisions, I would suggest looking at a site like Welcome to PassportStamp | PassportStamp (http://www.passportstamp.com) - they've already got the world divided up and then further broken down by geographical region. It makes no sense to reinvent the wheel on that, but at the same time we need to recognize that someone in Russia may not be able to easily make it to Spain, while someone in Austria could more easily make it to Germany.

I wonder if it would be easier if we 1) found a VB plugin that does something like this, or 2) wrote a lightweight webapp to do so? I'd be happy to write something if it could be hosted elsewhere. The latter would allow for email reminders of upcoming events and an easy way to search/drilldown for events in a given geographical location or within a given timeframe.

Jeremiah - you seem to be pretty in-tune with what's available for vB - have you seen a "meetup" plugin?

Thats good, but I think there are too many divisions in Africa and Asia. We also need one for Australia. But thats a good fundamental.

Leave it to the travel aficionado to correct us all. :P

Unfortunately, no: it would seem that a custom app written by you- or anyone else with such knowledge, for that matter- would be the best way to go, that way we can fine tune it to our needs.

This is a really really good idea. Theres so many people around here saying how noone from the forums lives by them, though there probably is they just don't know about it yet. If we had a subforum like this then people who want to do a meet up could just go and look for their area.

Mods we need you! haha

Well we do already have the "where we all live/where we're from" thread, but sadly it hasn't really caught on. Only around 100 people have posted their location, out of over 5000? members.
