I made this thread to see what everyones' thoughts on the soundtrack for Avatar were. I think it's great, and really adds to Pandora nicely.
Soundtracks enable me to imagine the world of Pandora and I remember what this track is about.

I am an artist/writer, very visual. I had Deaf neighbors for years who taught me about their culture, and if I had to choose, I'd rather lose my ears than my eyes...
That said; James Horner rocks. Music either highly irritates me, or highly moves me. His moves me. I realized he'd made soundtracks for quite a few of my favorite films.
I like the combination of classic soundtrack music with the indigenous vocals. National Public Radio runs a show called "Echoes" which uses electronic and ancient vocals/instruments/sounds to create "ambient" auditory soundscapes. The Avatar soundtrack reminded me of the best of that sort of thing. It was at once familiar and alien. It also (especially with the chants and other vocals) reaches into our collective subconcious, draws us back to another time and place when we were far more akin to the Na'Vi than to the plugged in culture we have become.

I agree with you. James Horner has a very amazing talent for this, and if avatar didn't have any of this music, I'm positive if wouldn't have been such an experience. That may be saying a lot about music in a film, but really. The way it sounds and corresponds with everything going on is great.
Also, what you said about being deaf or blind, I would choose deaf easily. Being able to see things is much more important I think.

Nice sound track and I find it inspiring and peaceful. I listen to it allot because I have a BAD habit of forgetting critical lessons or things I shouldn't forget, very bad memory at times.
I enjoyed the second track when Jake enters his avatar world which somehow keeps my spirit up and I imagine one day running free from my bonds atm similar to how Jake is running through the fields, he is ecstatic and charged with a sense of freedom that overcomes him, and also the last one of 'I See You' which kinda keeps that love spirit going, I don't want to end up all bitter now do I? so helps me believe love is possible.
(yeah OK you got me I'm a single male but least I have a Earth and Ocean Science degree, that makes me feel like I'm part way on track at least)

Yes, I particularly liked that part too, the scene when he runs away with his new body. 1: I do like the music, it is very inspiring. 2: Its great to see someone who's been confined to a wheelchair for so long be running free of anything holding him back. It must be great to feel what that's like.

I enjoy it. Some of the songs seem a little like alike in my opinion but all together the album has some pretty good, relaxing music. Not the type of music to listen to while studying, but good music for just lying around daydreaming.
Come summer I think it's going to be awesome music to kayak with.

I love the soundtrack. I love soundtracks at all, but this one is special. Especially track 10 and 11. I ALWAYS get goosebumps.
James Horner does a good job on Soundtracks. But I also like Harry G. Williams!
Can't wait to get the sheets. Hopefully someone will release them or recreate them. I am terrible with playing by ear. :D

There is a very good thread about this on the music section of the forum. As I said there, there isn't a track on the soundtrack I don't love. Makes me want to see the movie again. You should check out the other thread :)

Very good soundtrack. James Horner has done an excellent job on it, really. Now I don't even have to watch the movie to feel like I'm on Pandora, the soundtrack alone does the job well enough. I love the music that plays during the romantic Jake/Neytiri scenes, it makes me feel emotional along with the acting

So, one thing I noticed is that even some tracks on the soundtrack get me all emotional lol. Not near the level of the movie, but the destruction of the hometree just makes me feel sad listening to it. Also, I noticed the section of "Jake Enter's His Avatar World" where in the movie he is running for the first time, it just...I don't even know. It make me feel happy for him, that he is able to enjoy so much what we take for granted everyday.

I've been listening to this album nonstop for almost a week now... my favorite tracks are: "Jake enters his avatar world", "Becoming one with the people", and "Jake's first flight".
I think I like "Jake Enters His Avatar World" best because it is just so uplifting, and makes you want to run! (Same as xcrunner said... :) )
Anyways, gorgeous soundtrack!

Exactly!, Whenever I listen to "Jake enters his Avatar world", especially the part where hes running outside, I get all choked up, because it reminds me of the first time I saw Jake running, and I just wanted to cheer for him, because he got his life back

There are so many parts of the soundtrack that get me emotional. I just made a thread on emotional scenes because I am listening to the soundtrack now and am curious as to everyone's thoughts on them.

I only recently bought the soundtrack and so far i love all the tracks - except perhaps the 'i see you' track. Time will tell on that one! Nevertheless even at this early stage of listening to it, i still think it's the most emotionally moving soundtrack i've heard since the LOTR soundtrack - which incidentally i truly believe is one the most incredible movie soundtracks ever created imo.
Anyway, i dont have a favourite track as yet, but most of them are very moving. Case in point, track 5 'Becoming one of the people' just chokes me up everytime i hear it. Especially from about 3:55 to 4:20, where the music becomes so soft and delicate... dear god. I'm a grown man and it gets me everytime.
When i listen to that, i get so many images of Neytiri and Jake together in my mind. Its such a wonderfully tender piece of music. Just incredible!

Yes, it is rather emotionally charged soundtrack. Most musical works from James Horner are. Even if it isn't the main theme of certain movie, like love growing between two characters, he takes such subplot and exposes it more, underlines with music. Sometimes, musically, making it the heart of a movie. His scores are usually uplifiting, inspiring, romantic but also can be tragic; just seeking for that humane element and expressing thru the music. Avatar soundtrack cetainly has a heart, just like the film itself.

^ That's by other composer and from different soundtrack. They often use music from other films in the trailers.
Anyway, I hope we will get a bootleg or smthg in future because a lot of music from Avatar didn't land on official release.

i'm guessing some of the music will be on the dvd, or the blue-ray, as will the deleted mating scene, or so the actors say XD

They will be definately more than the mating scene. I've read something about 40-50 minutes that has been deleted.
I'm currently at track 3, and it's been amazing so far. Can't wait till I get to the high point in the later tracks.

They will be definately more than the mating scene. I've read something about 40-50 minutes that has been deleted.
There was approximately 1.5 hours worth, but not all of that was fully animated, and like Elequin has stated it would take roughly 20 million to animate each scene, so there is probably roughly 30-45 min that will be added on

I found this musical score to be one of the best sounding, composed, and most meaningful ever made. If only there was more music like it to listen to.

When trying to fall asleep I thought to myself that listening to the soundtrack to help me fall asleep would be a good idea. The soundtrack puts you into such a tranquil state that you completely forget about everything else. I fell asleep without even knowing I did and I woke still listening to the soundtrack.

Yes, I love soundtrack (except for Leona's song). But I think some of the short sequences are not on the soundtrack.
Like, when Neytiri flies with Ikran for the first time, that part is absolutely amazing! I love Becoming one with People/Neytiri.
I love to listen it when I paint, it really relaxes me and takes me on a journey through Pandora...
