as if I didn't have enough sad feelings watching Avatar, JC had to throw more gut-ripping scenes into the script...

Of course, there was the Tsu'tey's death and passing the title of Olo'eyctan to Jake... and three other moments that also caused me to really feel sadness while reading were:

- Grace explaining the shooting and Sylwanin's death to Jake. This scene really depicted just how much Grace was connected to Na'vi and how much pain the events brought her

- After Grace died, the description of her avatar, lying there, sleeping - VACANT. And no one will wake it up ever again...

- And the saddest part of all is made of only 7 words... when Grace tells Jake "You can never really be with her". I don't know about you, but I could put myself in his shoes... and man, that is something that tears you apart, to know that you love somebody yet you can't be with that person

Any thoughts?

I havent read the whole script, so ecuse me if this is a dumb question.
When does Grace say "you can never be with her"?
But the Tsu'tey scene is definately one of the most sad things about the script.

Yes! I totally agree, and I so hope JC puts these into the DVD release. When I read the script and found all the clips and pics online that these scenes were shot, I about lost it. And these are some of the most emotional scenes in the movie.

I think its awesome that JC now has vindication on all the studio heads who have told him for years no one would sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie! It happened on 'Aliens,' and when he went and completed all new SFX for the special edition, it became the hottest selling DVD of the early 90's. Same with 'The Abyss,' and 'Terminator 2.' No one will sit for a movie almost three hours long? How about a billion dollars domestic!!!

Yea! Suck on that!

No question is ever dumb, Ikranflyer... she says "you can never be with her" on page 84 of the script, just before Jake goes through ceremony of becoming Omaticaya. Grace felt that Jake went in too deep with feelings for Omaticaya people, especially Neytiri - just like she did before him. She feels that he has changed. So she reminds him that it takes millions of dollars to sustain their "lives" as Na'vi, that they will eventually have to go from there and that it will bring him (and Neytiri) only pain. Because, in the end, he is just a human pretending to be Na'vi, and that can't be changed, so the relationship between him and Neytiri is something that can never be.

GRACE
No matter what you prove out there-- you are still in here.
(shaking him)
Right here.

JAKE
I have to go all the way -- become one of them--

GRACE
(furiously)
Goddammit, Jake, you can never be one of them!

Norm looks up, startled at the VEHEMENCE in GRACE’ voice.

GRACE
Our life out there takes millions of dollars of machinery to sustain. You visit -- and you leave.

During this, Jake pulls himself from his wheelchair, levering himself into the Link, hauling his useless legs inside.

GRACE
(softening)
You can never truly be with her.

Jake stops, pinioned by the truth. He seems suddenly very lost.

That must've hurt...
Oh yeah... I wish that none of the people here ever find out just how much...

I myself haven't finished the script yet either, but just the beginning was really depressing. Plus it makes me feel really hollow not seeing the movie in two weeks, I need to experience Pandora and Jakes epic journey again! This weekend I'll see it friday and saturday for Avatar Week!

So all these things mentioned above have been shot, right? Looking forward to a big big big Collectors edition dvd box :P

So Sylwanin was Neytiris Sister? (Maybe i missed something quite constantely or its just mentioned in the script?)

The script is full of great, missed opportunities :ncry:
I really hope they will all be on the DVD.

She wasn't mentioned at all in the film, only the script.

I thought the Tsu'tey death scene was really said especially when he says -
-- I fought with Toruk Macto, we were brothers -- and he was my last shadow

> The full script is "darker" than what we got on the big screen. If the "light" version we have watched already made people cry, feel sad, feel empty, etc, etc... I wonder what a unabridged director's cut will make... Since I watched the movie already, its easier to make the images on your mind as you read, and the images the script pops on your mind are just too... sad...
> On the other hand, every little piece of hapiness, victory and success the script throws at you is like being on a dark room and finally going out on the bright open :)

Grace probably said that to Jake, because she didn't know yet, that the Na'vi's Tree of Souls, can transfer a person's consciousness from their human body to their avatar, which is what Jake ended up doing. In the movie, when Grace was injured she said something like "I am a scientist, I don't believe in miracles."

Yeah, that was a very poignant part of the script.

There's one other element that really bugs me that it was removed - I found it emotional and think the movie is worse off for having not included it. But I'm a sucker for Grace...

This is after Grace has been shot and they're trying to perform the transfer of her soul to the avatar body.

Grace is barely conscious. She grips his hand.

GRACE: "I -- always held back. But you gave them your heart. I’m proud of you, Jake."

Jake feels his throat close with emotion. Grace’s eyes blaze with intensity though her voice is faint.

GRACE: "Help them. You do whatever it takes. You hear me?"
JAKE: "I will."

God I love that moment. :nsad:

Yeah the script was rather sad at points. I enjoyed *spoilers* how Grace lived though :D
