First, let me state that I'm as much a fan of Avatar as the rest of you. I've seen the movie 3 times and purchased the toys books etc.
I purchased the game because I wanted to see more of the movie and Pandora. Not because I wanted to play the best game I've ever played. In this respect, the game is great.
I'll start out by saying the gameplay is not bad, the controls are easy and intuitive. It does feel a bit like a console port, but that's ok. There were no apparent problems here.
The RDA Environments are a bit stale, with people standing around doing seemingly nothing, but the technology and feel is the same from the movie. You'll see a lot of things you recognize which is neat.
One neat feature for fans, is the pandorapedia articles. Everything in the game you scan will get an entry in your pandorapedia. There is a TON of info here, more than is anywhere else I've found. Short of a full actual pandorapedia, this is the best you're gonna get.
The environments of Pandora are majestic at first, and coming from seeing the movie, you'll expect to die very easily. Once you get used to the controls killing things becomes a lot easier.
The plants and animals you're used to seeing are all there. There are, however, a few points of contention I will point out:
1. The game has no idea about "queueing" or using the head-tails on the animals and it gets this a little wrong. You just jump on them and go.
2. You can get an ikran, but you don't even battle it, it ends up knocking you off a cliff and you get saved by it. This doesn't match with anything from the movie.
3. There's a quest to kill "sick" animals. Animals on Pandora don't get "Sick". not according to the script. The idea that humans would transfer disease to the animals is a bit silly.
Overall, the game is great for fans of avatar. Did you LOVE the movie? PLAY THE GAME. If you do it on easy mode it will be a fun little ride through some of the universe. The environments are well laid-out and you'll enjoy battling the RDA or killing Na'vi depending on the choice you make.
