I've realised something over the last 24 hours, and I'm fairly sure I've figured out why the current corporate scenario isn't likely to be displaced in the immediate future.

The reason is, that most people still aren't hurting enough, that they're willing to do something about it, yet. We still live in a scenario where, for some of us at least, there's still some greenery around. There haven't been massive food shortages yet, and it hasn't got to a scenario yet, where people have to wear exopacks, because the air quality has got so bad.

In other words, in the minds of the average mainstream consumer, there's still room for thinking that nothing is wrong. We know that isn't the case, of course; but the mainstream are people who went to see Avatar, and thought it was a good film because of the graphics, and the fact that it had James Cameron's name on it, not because of the message. The mainstream don't think, in terms of what might be, or what could be. They think only, in terms of what exists in front of them, right now.

Given the degree of their addiction to the current system, (fast food, video games of various kinds, ipods/iphones, reality/celebrity tv) it's also going to take something which, in an immediate sense, threatens their survival in no uncertain terms, before they will be willing to do anything, as well.

I don't think that will mean, that the planet will become quite as bad as it does in Avatar's scenario, but it does probably mean, that we'll ultimately be reduced to growing plants under the sort of biomes that have already been prototyped by the Eden Project (http://www.edenproject.com/).

You're right about everything you said Petrus, people don't change unless they see a need.

We hope the Navi Movement serves a dual purpose in unity with all other environmental groups in existence

1) Awaken people to the reality that there is a need to change, before Mother Nature bites back.
2) Should this change not come quickly enough to stop Mother Nature from sinking her teeth, this website will still be here then, for people to come here when they realize on their own its time to change.

That's why, as I've said elsewhere, in 15 years of Internet use, I will admit that this is the first Internet resource of any kind that I've donated to. I very much believe in this forum's worth. :nsmile:

I view this forum as being vitally important for two reasons.

a) Educating people about the importance of being willing to help in reclaiming/healing Nature.

b) Much more importantly, being a sufficiently positive and loving online environment that people are willing to open their hearts and rediscover how to experience empathy and compassion. Apathy and indifference are our main adversaries, far more than ignorance. I need to police myself as well, for it is vital that we maintain the highest possible standard in how we treat each other here.

This is the exact reason why the Navi Movement was born on this forum. The atmosphere here is just chockful with kindness caring and positivity. It is something I value very highly about this forum, and I appreciate the moderators for everything they do to keep it this way.

The change we want to see...it's going to take several generations at the very least. You have to change an entire society's culture in order to get everything up and running as it should be and that is going to be a struggle. But, we can't keep talking about it all the time. It's great to see some things sort of getting off the ground (like the Na'vi Movement), but there seems to be a large amount of inertia. I'm not advocating an all out attack on everything immediately, but there needs to be some movement on getting things going, otherwise the momentum and the opportunities that have arisen for us to get into the public conscience will have been lost. It needs to be more than just an internet campaign, so to speak. The internet is great, but not everyone uses it and for the most part the other media are the ones which are setting the agendas...especially TV/broadcast media. We need to utilise them all. If we're going to use the internet too...advertise!!!!. Takes money, yes, but we're just have to bite the bullet and go for it. You won't get the support if you don't make yourselves known to people. However, we have to do this intelligently...intelligent advertising and an intelligent message. Don't go over people's heads with facts and figures...you have to identify your core values and beliefs and get them into the people's minds. Make them want to take ownership of those values and beliefs too. You do that, and we'll have half the battle won. Then, the hard slog starts.
