View Full Version : Is this how Quaritch survives?
Revengeance

Just bought An Activist Survival Guide and noticed this (sorry if it's been mentioned already):
If the operator has been injured or killed, the AMP Suit has an unmanned "walk-back" capability on battery power. This feature was developed to protect the significant capital investment made in each suit. There's no way he could make it back to Hell's Gate, because either those arrows or the atmosphere would kill him first. Plus, the Suit's battery wouldn't last the distance. And the humans who were allowed to stay in the facility probably wouldn't want to help him, anyway. My only guess is he is located and rescued by another fleet of humans...
Or he could survive by some other cheesy way involving his DNA, like Lang hinted at. :nconfused:

I never thought of that while reading it. Well no matter the toxin will kill him within a minute.
Really though if anyone is bringing back a villain then JC is the man for the job. Whatever way he comes back (if he does) will be something spectacular.

Yes, the neurotoxin will kill him in 1-minute. That's if the holes in his lungs and heart haven't already done him in.

Hmmm very interesting... Pretty sure he is going to gives himself CPR though

lol seriously: He's dead - totally.
Even if he's one of the guys who eat plutonium for breakfast and cr**s armor-piercing bullets in the evening. ;)

he's gone baby gone!!! His AMP suit is pretty dead, from the fight i dont think it could survive the walk back and no way he can have an oxygen tank long enough to survive a good 1 hour plus walk lol

Quaritch is forced to wear the exopack for environmental issues, in order to protect the atmosphere of Pandora, So I wouldn't worry about that. Also, his exo pack never fell of his face.

The arrows have a neurotoxin, death in 60 seconds (although, with injuries like two 6-foot arrows straight through your chest, he would have died before it had a chance to kill him)

Stop trying to find information about Quaritch being alive people, HE'S DEAD! It should stay like that, it's generally what happens in the real world, a person dies and they never come back, James Cameron has said that he wanted everything in the movie to be possible someday, I don't see bringing back people from the dead being possible in the future, do you?

If they can map the human brain to the point that it can mesh successfully with an avatar body. I don't see why they couldn't take a backup scan and then imprint it on a new clone body. In sci-fi science the two aren't that far apart.
I enjoyed Stephen Lang's performance but I don't think the Quaritch character will make a second appearance. Could Stephen Lang act the part of a new motion capture villain, sure why not?

If Quaritch comes back he will be an avatar. The AMP suit will walk his dead *** back and they'll use his DNA to make an avatar. Or he'll be a vegetable controlling an avatar body.

It's been done before in sci-fi as well - J. M. Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, wrote a canon short story describing exactly that process being done to Susan Ivanova, one of the main characters.

In the Old Man's War series the minds of old soldiers are transferred to cloned genetically enhanced versions of themselves so they can fight for the Colonial Defence Forces (CDF).

I believe I read/heard somewhere that in an interview with Quaritch's actor he states something to the effect of the RDA having his DNA and cloning him.

Cloning is the only way he is coming back. I think mixing his DNA with that of a Na'vi to create a new "super villian" could be cool.

Umm...
...Couldn't the RDA just get another officer rather than spending millions on cloning a colonel who failed to keep the human occupants secure from danger? Why repeat the same mistake when you can learn from it and get a new guy?
This discussion is quite strange. Who in their right mind would think bringing back Quaritch (even if it was explained logically) would be a benefit for the RDA's efforts?

Well you have to give the guy some credit, had Eywa not taken sides and swarmed him with all sorts of trouble, he'd have won. It's pretty hard for any man to fight against the deity of a planet.
And if you think about it, he's got one hell of a score to settle now.

Man, that really shows how a corporation thinks! The AMP suit’s operator gets killed, and the suit walks back home with the mangled corpse just to save the corporation some money. And they’re asking their personnel to risk their lives for slimeballs like that?

> Agreed... First day there and he already got a "scratch" on his face... He was prone to fail at some point...
> On the other hand, Quatrich knows now (would know, if it wasn't for the fact he's DEAD) what NOT to do when fighting the Na'Vi.

or they could just cut to an unscarred quaritch getting out of an avatar machine, showing that this whole time there were two of him and the one that got scarred what just a fully human avatar...

Gotta agree with this. The way I see it, the Na'vi didn't really win the battle. They got what they wanted, but at the cost of their home and how many lives?
But as for Quaritch coming back...maybe they'll use his DNA and code it into a computer. Then stick this computer into the head of machine that looks like a human...no, a Na'vi. So this Na'vi will be normal looking, but is also really buff and is completely bionic except for the flesh that disguises him. No need to worry about the atmosphere, because he is a machine. In this...Quaritch will be back.
Wait, was this already done before?

I think one thing we can be fairly certain of, is that he won't come back as a clone. If he was going to then Stephen Lang would never have mentioned it, giving possible spoilers before the sequel was even written.

He is dead, but Cameron will surely have a superior antagonist in Avatar II that will trump Quaritch. I know its gonna be hard because Quaritch is so uber, but it will happen because Quaritch wasn't the only one of his kind and might be a bit mild compared to others for all we know.

It'd be a good twist if Quaritch had to come back as an Avatar... he'd HATE that! :nsmile:
It's pretty likely that he'd come back through DNA, either way...

Yes, I have no idea how they'll work it.
But I'd like to see someone far more malevolent in there. Maybe a General this time. I'd also love to see Robert Downey Jr come in as the CEO of RDA, and be a bigger jerk than Selfridge.

Why would the RDA put money into bringing back a man who clearly couldn't do his job? Just a thought to throw up in the air ;).

I really hope Quaritch is completely gone from all sequels. The corporation and the greed behind it were supposed to be the real baddies. Quaritch was just one manifestation of those things. If they bring him back, it will seriously weaken the message. Not to mention drawing comparisons with "Alien: Resurrection." Bleh!

I don't think I'd want to see him in a sequel in any form, it would seem too redundant. The next baddies could be some Na'vi that don't agree with a 'dreamwalker' being leader and wish to dethrone him, something along those lines...

Maybe the Quaritch we saw go out and fight and die WAS an Avatar....a human one. If the RDA can sync a human brain with a Na'vi/human hybrid, surely they could sync one to a human clone. Maybe Quaritch had a few of these and existed in that form for safety/security reasons and is actually a normal or even disabled individual in his original real body. Maybe it is that simple. I'm looking forward to AVTR2!

Actually once he fell on the ground and the camera panned away, he pulled out both arrows and sealed his gaping wounds with duct tape. Then he held his breath and walked back to Hell's Gate.
