(sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this - please move or merge if I got it wrong... :nlol:)
It looks like there are others here living in AZ. I wonder if you've found a particularly good theater to view Avatar in?
My two viewings so far have been good but not great. I'm looking for a "wow" experience - big screen, big audio, good 3D. Arizona Mills IMAX was a let down. I'd even be willing to pop over to LA as it sounds like there's an excellent theater there, but it would have to be showing for a few more weeks.
So does anyone have a suggestion for best Avatar viewing in AZ?

I've been to the AZ Mills IMAX 3 times and thought it was awesome. I've seen it in many other theaters here also, my favorite is the RealD 3D at Norterra 14. I heard that in Tuscon there is a theater showing it in "active" 3d. It's the 3d that uses the electronic shutter glasses. The person I talked to said it blew the Imax 3d out of the water. I am still trying to get more info so I can check it out.

Thanks you two!
I think I'll check out Norterra this Sunday to sample RealD.
Did you guys think the AZ Mills IMAX theater seats were uncomfortable? Apparently Harkins just bought the theater recently (maybe November) and has plans to update it very soon.
Viper - if you find out on Tucson, please let me know - I'd be interested in checking it out. I don't think it's Dolby, which was the only active shutter one I could think of. So that would leave XPanD or something else. In fact, after looking on XPanD's website, I'm betting it's this: Tower Theatres, Tucson, AZ. Hmmmm, thinking a trip to Tucson is in order ASAP... :nsmile:

Ugh... Bullhead City just has these crap casinos in Laughlin with grainy film quality and major cropping.
But there's ONE casino showing it in 3D... Not IMAX, but I plan to go see it in 3D real soon.
AZ Mills IMAX! THAT'S WHERE TO GO!
And to think I lived within driving distance of it just last year...

It's okay - maybe... there's an IMAX 7 miles from you playing Avatar. But it's in Juarez, and I'd assume that means the movie is dubbed in Spanish. And I think you posted that you're in the military (thank you for your service), so I'm not sure you're even allowed to go over there (don't they restrict movement to areas considered unsafe?).
Well you could enjoy the visuals at least if you don't speak fluent Spanish.

There's a Dolby 3D theater just north of you in Las Cruces, NM - I believe Dolby 3D uses the active shutter technology and it's reported to give one of the better 3D views. Not IMAX, but possibly better than RealD which is all you've got in El Paso.
...or...
Get over to Phoenix with us. I'm going to create a thread to see if anyone is interested in meeting up next weekend (the 29th/30th/31st) to see Avatar in IMAX 3D in honor of the "Avatar Week" thread.

It's only a 100 mile drive to Vegas. Where there's IMAX (4 in fact - only the "Brenden Theaters @ The Palms" one is full-size)... :nsmile:
Whether you drive to Vegas or not, the 3D is definitely worth it! Enjoy!

...my favorite is the RealD 3D at Norterra 14.
I'm confused - I went there tonight to see it and it's a MasterImage theater. Since I'd already seen it once in MasterImage, I bailed, but was late to the next showing. Saw it in RealD 3D at the Harkins Arrowhead Fountains 18.
