Any other Selfridge fans out there? As despicable as Parker is, he was one of my favorite characters in the movie. I love the job that Giovanni Ribisi did with the role. He was perfectly snarky, obnoxious, quirky, selfish, and human.

LOOK AT ALL THAT CHEDDAR.

I can't wait to see the deleted scene where Quaritch takes over and we find out that Selfridge had a heart after all.

I thought the same thing! I don't watch entourage, but he reminded me of Jeremy Piven (Ari) a whole lot.

James Cameron was a guest star on Entourage I would bet money that he got the Selfridge character form there lol

You could see that he felt a little remorse after Quaritch gassed Hometree... although it's like he said... The one thing shareholders hate more than bad press is not getting the goods (or something like that...). He's just doing his job, and I think if he could have, he would have done that in a more civilized manner. (lol. Ironic that the 'savages' are more civilized than the 'civilized skypeople'. )

Anyways, I thought he was a pretty good character, but in my opinion, he got a little annoying after a while. Maybe Cameron intended that? Great actor, though.

He showed enough emotion to fit the role perfectly.

Exactly, same with Trudy. I think he did a great job acting his part.

I actually really really like his character. After Jake and Neytiri he might be my favorite. He did such an excellent job and was comical at points. I don't know, he was just a guy trying to do his job and he got caught up and lost control. I hope he returns in a sequel

I like his character because you got to see him slowly turn and have a heart, such as when he looks at the destroyed Home Tree on the monitors in shock of what he had done. He also had some good/funny quotes that I enjoyed.

I think Selfridge wanted to sell fridges to the Na'vi. That is why he was not pleased when he found out that the Na'vi didn't want light beer.

he is the bad guy you hated to love. yeah, great character, good acting, and even at the end you get a sense that he knew what he was doing was wrong the whole time.
he even seems regretful near the end when he's starring at the floating unobtanium on his desk... at least thats how i interpreted it.

Yeh that's Selfridge in a nutshell, always ready to swoop in and make a deal, whether it being Unobtanium or fridges.

Selfridge was somehow the most real character of all. He was a metaphor for not only corporate greed, but also our own helplessness.

He said at one point he didn't want to kill the Na'vi. But failing millions of shareholders is not an option for him either. He's stuck in between morality and what's expected from him. He is basically powerless. Not only because he's part of a system that wants him to do, what they did on Pandora. But also, because in reality, it was Quaritch who ran that colony.

There's a deleted scene, which i hope will be in the Blue Ray. You can clearly see, that at a later part of the movie, Selfridge obviously is against the Invasion plans of Quaritch. But he's powerless again. I guess he feared Quaritch would kill him.

Just like we are, when we realize, in what a shape our world is. We love movies like Avatar, which are a result of "corporate greed". We consume, we go to work. In general we're not so different from Selfridge. That's why i liked him.

It's sad that they've deleted this scene from the movie. The scene makes sense and would have explained all the thinking that Selfridge did in his office.
I really like his role, he did a great Job. But I can't imagine that we will see him again.

Parker is my favorite character behind Neytiri and Jake. He is very complicated in my opinion. He is more of a man trying to do his job the Quaitch and loses control of the situation fast. I blame him for Hometree, but in one of the deleted scenes it appears as if he is very angry at Quaritch for attacking the Tree of Souls. I think he expresses regret at the end for his actions, although it is too late at that point. He was portrayed to perfection by the actor and I though the character was great.

Well then, I might change my opinions when I watch the deleted scenes, when the dvd comes out! ;)

Selfridge was hilarious, and an *** at the same time, it was perfect. In the end he did look like he severly regreted what he did. theres a new B role out that shows the colonel almost beating the hell out of selfridge. which my be why he was so sad at the end, maybe the distruction of hometree wasn't ultimatly his decision.

apparently someone above me has already said this lol my bad xD

I find it funny when people "hate" a character. That means that actor did a superb job in his role.

Selfridge was a great character, not quite carter-burke but not quite on-board with being nice.

I LOVE THIS PUTTER RONNEY!

Hudson

What a name! The putter was a nice little nod to Outland, I thought.

Ribisi was brilliant. I hope he and Paul Reiser are friends.

(And do you think he'd have gone more "Burke" had he been able to get some alone time at Hell's Gate? He didn't mind pulling the xenocidal trigger on the Na'vi . . . I wonder.)

selfride is wonderfully played by ribisi.A scene cut has him challenging quaritch when the later wants to commit genocide..so not all bad...just a corporate man...

I loved the guy, although like most of you, his decisions weren't the best. The lack of respect really showed that he didn't need the forest or the natural resources since he had all that money. Although, I wished they did show more of him in the movie.
