On Buffy-Boards they use this function. Basically, there would be a little icon next to the "Report Post" icon and a pop-out thing would show up. You can add to the person's "reputation". You then click a radio button that either says "I Agree" or "I Disagree", then type in a short sentence. Rather than starting a new post, your "reputation" comment shows up at the bottom of the post to which you approve/disapprove. When someone receives positive reputation comments, it adds to their overall "points.
This would be a good way to **** out some of the smaller "I agree/disagree" types of posts as well.
Anyway, the new status bars reminded me of this so I figured I'd pass it along.

Great suggestion. Reminds me of the feature YouTube and their comments have with the thumbs down and thumbs up.

Isn't the problem with this that the code ends up being quite complicated for something like this? Thats what I remember seeing from when I last saw this come up on a forum.

Yeah it's pretty much like the Thumbs Up/Down feature.
Here's a link to one of my posts on Buffy-Boards.com (http://www.buffy-boards.com/showthread.php?p=764884#post764884). It shows you basically what happens when you receive a "Reputation Comment". It's also a bit like when you post a Status on Facebook, and people leave comments under that, instead of cluttering up your wall with more comments. It doesn't add to your post count, but on the bright side it doesn't eat up as much forum space with those really short posts ("Yes!" "I agree!" "Hahha!"). It's kind of like a digital pat-on-the-back, too.
Look under my Avatar on BB, the little green squares basically tally up your reputation. (If you can't view the link, I can just screen cap it.)

A reputation system would fit very well with this new progress bar system, but I'll just make sure the newly implemented system does not affect posts in a negative way first, then I'll implement it :) Thanks for sharing!

I'm a little confused as to how this is different than the other reputation based topic already in this forum?
I'm not trying to be rude or anything, genuinely interested.

Are you referring to the "Progress bars" thread?
I don't exactly understand how the progress bars measure/calculate... uh, well whatever it is they calculate. I like them, I just don't quite know exactly because this is the first time I've seen them.
The reputation comments refer to the significance of your posts in terms of other people's direct comments to them; if a lot of people like what you say, you get more reputation points. In this sense, it kind of encourages you to make higher quality posts. It doesn't take away anything. Kind of like bonus points on a test: if you get them right, you get more points, but it doesn't hurt you if you get them wrong.
