This is just the idea thread for an RP I might run.

Just so you know, this RP will be ran differently than other RPs on the site so far. I will be the GM (Game Master) and my word will be law. I will not control a PC (Player Character) but I will control the rest of the game world (NPCs, enemies, Pandora itself). Not to hate on the other RP threads, but I felt an RP with a more structured storyline is needed around here. I've never GMed a Forum RP before, so this will be a new experience for me.

I have a general idea of what I want to do, but I need to go into writer mode and start writing the actual beginnings of the story and exactly what I want to have happen. This thread is to see how much interest there would be in the story. DO NOT MAKE CHARACTERS IN THIS THREAD, PLEASE! When I'm ready to truly start this RP there will be another thread titled [DISC] Return of the Sky People. You can submit your player profiles there.
:
Here's the general idea I have so far:

Return of the Sky People
Number of Players: 4-6
The Story so far: It's been 15 years since the Great Battle at the Tree of Souls. The Sky People were driven back to the dull, gray world from whence they came. Due to lack of food and resources, the remnants of the Avatar Team have all abandoned their human bodies and now permanently reside in their Avatars, members now of the Omaticaya. The clan has relocated to a new Kelutral and are living prosperously. Jake Sully is now the Olo'eytkan and with the death of Mo'at 3 years ago, Neytiri has taken over as Tsahik. Now the RDA has returned to Hell's Gate, fully intent on continuing the destruction of 15 years ago. Jake and Neytiri attempt to talk to the RDA's new supervisor on Pandora, Andrew Worthington. However, the RDA doesn't want to talk, and they have again set their sights on harvesting the Unobtanium underneath the old, fallen Hometree, which now a revered site of the Omaticaya. Fear grows that a new war with the Sky People is about to happen. However, Jake is no longer the Toruk Makto and the Sky People seem to have even greater firepower than before. Will this be the time for the 7th Toruk Makto to rise? Can Jake and Neytiri convince the other Na'vi clans to come together again to combat a common foe thought gone? Only time will tell.

So if you would be interested in playing in this RP, please say so here. Also, if you have any Basic questions about how things will work, feel free to ask and I will answer to the best of my ability.

I might be interested in joining up for this, Seeing how i've avoided the other major RP-thread due to not bothered to catch-up.

Also - Since we're talking about 4-6 players. Are we going by even Na'vi and Skypeople numbers?

Or are we going all Na'vi with Skypeople merely functioning as "the" enemy?

You'll all be Na'vi (or Avatars, as the case may be). The RDA will be the enemy (as far as you know. At least that's the plan for now.

Curses! But if you've got it planned out - I'll not try to change your mind.

I'm still interested though.

I'll just have to go through the hassle of creating a Na'vi ( Avatar ) character.

I've got the basics of the story down. It's not very drawn out yet, but I'm already sure I want all the PCs to be Na'vi/Avatars.

Sorry you can't use your RDA character, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of having to put up with PCs on opposite sides of the same struggle, even for a little while.

How are we going to "act" as Avatars though? Are we part of the RDA force in the beginning?

No, if you read the above story section. All the remnants of the Avatar Team permanently transferred into their Avatar bodies (same way as Jake did). So while you're an "Avatar" you're part of the Na'vi now.

However, during character creation I do want to be specific whether you are a natural Na'vi or an Avatar. It'll change the way some people will talk and interact with you.

Ah, forgot completely about the "anonymous" scientists in the Avatar program.

I have to say. I'm beginning to really like the setting.

Why is it the RDA returning any other gov could try to take Pandora and win.

Anyways I would want to be RDA

Sorry, but I'm writing the story from the Na'vi side, and that requires that the players be Na'vi. If I'm not mistaken, the RDA has a contract with the world's governments that gives them a legal monopoly on everything off world, including Pandora. I'm just reaching and assuming that the RDA are the only people who can make the trip.

That's correct. It's mentioned on the official Wiki.

Not to mention that they are actually larger than most other Goverments.

I'm interested. How to do you plan on progressing the story? Will you give the PC's a setting/scenario to work out of and see where they go? And will there be a set meeting time to progress the story more efficiently?

I'm interested, although don't know exactly how a forum RP goes.

Essentially, I plan on it working as follows. I'm going to essentially write a story, and you guys get to be the characters in it. You all will influence the story as you go, and you'll have a decent amount of freedom as to how things play out, but I'm going to be keeping you guys progressing through the story (think of a traditional Japanese RPG like Final Fantasy or Star Ocean here). As for a time to progress the story, with this being a web forum and me having just about the worst work schedule ever, I don't think all of us being online at the same time would pan out. So you'd probably get about one to two story posts a day. It'll probably be agonizingly slow, but it will progress.

Also, it definitely seems like I have enough interest. I'm going to hunker down and start hammering out the plot. I'm also going to go see Avatar again on Sunday, so I'll make sure to get the characterizations right and take a good look at the technology each side will have.

Expect the [DISC] thread late Sunday/early Monday. Then after Characters are made and approved, the [Story] thread will be posted. I'll explain more about these different threads and their uses in the [DISC] thread.

Well here's the problem with that plan. I'm not starting the story until I have the requisite amount of players. At that point (If I have 6 people) I'm not going to be taking anyone else in (unless a PC dies, which could happen).

So if you wait to see how it starts then play, it may be too late.

I'd join this right away. I've been planning on joining an RP for a while now but was a bit intimidated especially by the length of Ikran clans of the sea (regardless that it's closed for new members to join) A GM sounds like a good idea for a progressive story too.
Do you have any idea when the RP will start? (When you are finished with your plans for the story etc. of course)

Whoops sorry. I should pay more attention when reading... Anyway, sounds great and I'd like to join if you don't have too many members already.

The [DISC] thread is now up. I got 2 players already, need 2-4 more. I'm wondering where all my interested players went.
