View Full Version : Avatar Fan Film 3 - Who wants to take part?
Kaltxi ma eylan,
Ok, who is up for taking part in Avatar Fan Film 3?
With the coming AvatarMeet 2012 in Seattle only a few weeks away the opportunity to do another Avatar fan film is just too good to pass up. The theme of this fan film is:
'Now we will send them a message.'
The intent is to create a fan film that we can send to the creators of Avatar to give them some encouragement for the next film and show them our appreciation. An 'Irayo' if you will, for bringing Avatar to us. This will also act as a wonderful record of this time in all our lives to look back on. Ok, so what is the synopsis?
Synopsis:
We all have our own individual and collective 'Avatar stories' to tell. This fan film will be the opportunity to collect them together. It will cover the story from the beginning when we first discovered Avatar and what our experience was like. It will explore our collective and individual journeys since then, how it has changed us, perhaps caused us to think and do things differently, through to the friendships and communities we have formed as a result. The final aspect will be an opportunity for us to say 'Irayo' to James Cameron, his cast and crew; to send them a message.
Whilst the opportunity will be taken to capture a considerable amount of the content at AvatarMeet 2012, this really is open to anyone who wishes to take part from the forums really. Even if you are unable attend the meet up.
So who is interested in taking part? If you are, feel free to post a reply here. There is no need to go filming right away as I will post more information once we know that there is enough interest out there.
Over to you.
Eywa ngahu,
Alan
well i'm already a part of it :rotfl: but i'll post here to bump the thread to the top. we need to gather the clan!

This is a cool idea, I will admit though I am a shy person and I don't think I have ever really filmed myself before( guess I would also have to buy a camera that could)LOL.
This movie has caused me to do and try things that I have either not done or haven't done in a long time, maybe sometime I will get the courage to do it, I will be interested in seeing the steps involved though, Irayo for the opportunity Alan.
Hey, irayo tm for bumping the thread. :nhi:
@ Wind12 and everyone else - This will be the third Avatar fan film we have done. The first one was in 2010 and was started on the forum and came out of a discussion about the environmental issues that Avatar relates to. It was called 'Our Only Home' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiFRTu5EtNo)and was made by 20 Avatar fans from 9 countries. It even got shown in an IMAX cinema prior to a showing of Avatar and has been translated into 7 languages! The second one was an Irayo video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmT5wQfqq6g)to mark the 1 year anniversary of Avatar's release.
Now as for the process that we went through for making these fan films, well we made a making of video which I have copied below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV0ZZQ6eQNw&feature=plcp
Part 2 is here: The Making of OOH Pt2.mp4 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfszxQja65U&feature=plcp)
It's just amazing how the internet has been able to make all this possible. For this latest film, although most of the filming will probably take place in Seattle at the Meet Up, it is open to any Avatar Fan who wants to take part. If you have any questions, just fire away.

Sounds like a very interesting Idea, I assume are you talking about sharing peoples experences with the film there are some very powerfull and in a few cases life changing storys out there (Not sure how open people would be to sharing them) relating to the film. and also paying respect to the people who worked so hard an bringing Camerons dream to life , I also would like to see a film that more deeply addresses the fundamental root issues behind "why our people don"t respect nature" and how this may be related to our underlying inner world view this ties in with the films story. that speaks so strongly to "some" peoples inner connective understanding of our place in the world. we have spoken on this issue in the past Avatar made me deeply question
our world view both personly and as a people it drove me to find answers to the issues the film addresses in fantasy that "mirror" very honest real world
problems, jumping slightly off topic take a look at issues and solutions presented through the Pachamama allience and see if the underlying tools used remind you of Avatar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRtuu1byxxA
The Achuar people are in part behind this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdzHmIf4Yc4

Yeah you have kinda got it in a nut shell there. This film is an opportity for Avatar fans to say why the like Avatar and what it means to them. As well as provide an opportunity to send a message to the people who made it happen. People can take it to the level they feel comfortable with. The intent is to put it unlisted on YouTube so it can be shared with the Avatar fans on the forums as well as send a copy to Lightstorm.
Irayo for sending the links through. I did watch them all. I had heard that so tribe people had been taken to watch Avatar. The seemed very savey with how to deal with 'us'. It good to know that we are beginning to see the errors of our ways and our culture is beginning to chafe as a result.
Yeah it would be an interesting topic to make a film about why our 'modern/technical culture' has evolved to not consider the home that we live on. However, that is another film, like you say. So just to bring myself back on topic, would you be interested in taking part?

In doing a film that represents the Avatar fan forum communitys targeted at thanking James Cameron, Cast and Crew I ask how will this be diffrent from "Irayo"
In looking at Avatar I see the film as a double sided coin, and others all have there respected opinion as well, Its a huge achevement from Creative Artistic and film creation technoligy viewpoint and for some thats what Avatar stands for but for a few it is also deeply changed there world view and I can think of number of very real world issues where it profoundly changed peoples lives the Dongria Kondh tribe in India comes directly to mind people saw the issues they where experencing mirrored in the film "Avatar" and chose to stand behind there people in respect for there land rights and issues socia ljustice it made a huge diffrence in there lives and in large part saved there home ,The Real Avatar 2: Strength In Numbers - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ojdTLhWsRA) As we all know people and groups raising there voice to protect there familys and nature from damaging energy development projects have come under huge presure, I suspect James Cameron has not excaped this issue, In Canada and around the world the film Avatar itself has come under attack from a number of angles and not suprisingly the "sources" of these attacks can often be "Quite intresting" if peolle take the time to look with there own eyes these issues are not unlike the Fantasy RDA
(‘Avatar is real’, say tribal people - Survival International (http://www.survivalinternational.org/news/5466) "Tribal people say "Avatar is real" better said what Avatar "symbolicly" speaks about is "No Fantasy" )
in the film its also quite possble he moved to be close to the groups that helped him make the first film in New Zealand, much of the effects and stunt work for the film orignated from there so I don"t want to start an untrue rumor by what I simply "Suspect" I do know nature film writer David Suzuki was "forced" to resign as leader of the David Suzuki foundation for fear his political views would put his group at risk (Story here) David Suzuki resigns to save foundation from (http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/04/14/david-suzuki-resigns-to-save-foundation-from-bully-charitable-status-threats/) he often uses examples from Avatar to address very honest real world issues and is not shy in saying so, His film I simply thought you might find intresting, Here he speakes the making of his film David Suzuki on the new feature film "Force of Nature" full - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF7eylt08iU&feature=related) and a clip the film itself on his involvement with the Haida people and there land:
Force of Nature clip - David Suzuki and the Haida Gwaii - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnLVjKM1vN0) I am not saying we should tell Cameron something he all ready knows , I am just presenting an example of just how powerful a change the world view represented by Avatar realy represents and offering examples on how others are presenting it to our people and the risk they take in speaking there mind on such issues effecting all our humanity, Avatar is a very strong mirror of these issues. and I would realy like to hear peoples opinions this subject but please stay focused on Alan's orignal question about involvement in the film.
Irayo
Kaltxi 123allrock,
Good question about how this film will differ from the first Irayo film. The first one was a one year reflection looking back. We have all come a long way since then, with having Avatar changed our lives that is unique to each one of us. This is an opportunity to reflect on that more collectively especially with many of us being able to meet up in Seattle in a few weeks time.
I will be posting a link to a website hopefully soon once I have got it sorted with a bit of help from ma tsmukan on ToS. This will contain a bit more background information, overview of previous fan films, filming tips and also a link to the script with details of what is required.
It was an interesting read 'and watch' of those links you gave. You know, it seems this has been going on since the industrial revolution and probably before that. The real difference now is that we are opening our eyes and hearts to what we are doing. Avatar has helped shed yet more valuable light on the subject. We all have in our grasp the ability to do our bit to change our ways and make a difference.
Irayo again 123allrock for your interest. Keep a look out.

Thank you
OK lets get started!
Irayo to everyone who have registered their interest in our fan film. With the help of Drewan I have pulled together a website that contains all the details we need to this film on the road.
There are five main pages:
Home Page (http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/)- contains a drop box for you to upload your footage and a sneek preview of the start of the film (Irayo to tm20 for doing the voice over).
Script Guidance (http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/html/script_guidance.html) - This gives an overview of the script and a link for you to download the script for you to read through and get your thinking caps on what you would like to say.
Film Making Tips (http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/html/film_making_tips.html) - covering shot types, camera info, sound, lighting and direction
Uploading Foootage Tips (http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/html/uploading_footage_tips.html)- How to name your clips, file formats and how to upload your footage.
Previous Fan Films (http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/html/previous_fan_films.html)- provides information about the previous two fan films that have been made.
There is now nothing to stop you filming away...unless you want to get involved with any of the specific scripted text. In which case contact me before filming these bits so I can update the script with who is doing what.
As I said at the start of this thread, although a fair amount of the filming will be undertaken on both the camping trip and in Seattle, this is open to anyone who would like to take part. So visit the website to find out more:
www.AvatarFanFilm.net (www.avatarfanfilm.net)
If you haven't already posted above that you would like to take part either leave a post or PM me. This is so I know who is taking part.
Irayo for taking the time to 'send them a message'. Have fun.

Alan

Alan I would love to participate, I am off work these next two days and thought I'd record a clip tomorrow to contribute as long as my video camera actually works.

Kaltxi ma tsmukan :nhi: That would be great. I take it you have been able to download the script from here --> http://www.avatarfanfilm.net/html/script_guidance.html
It has been updated with those who have put their names down to do certain lines from the scripted portions.
If you have any questions fire away...although I might be a bit quiet from Tuesaday to Wednesday as I'll be travelling over to your side of the pond all being well! :nlol:

Irayo ma tsmukan. I'm just downloading your footage now. I may not get chance to look it through straight away as I start my adventure to your side of the pond tonight, via a stop over in Leicester! However, I'll be about... Irayo again :nhi:
