View Full Version : What if Cameron had shot Avatar on location?

I just find the whole concept so striking.

We're in the jungle one minute we're watching Jake and Neytiri in the jungle when we hear "cut!" and then we shift around to see Cameron and the film crew standing around in exopacks filming.

The resulting picture is one of the making of a sci-fi version of Apocalyse Now. Just one that requires an entirely new base, an army of security personel and a fleet of aircraft to haul equipment around. Imagine what shooting the final battle would be like.

^Thats funny. And we thought Avatar was expensive to make! The costs would be out of this world! Ha ha. Neytiri's chair has her name printed on the back and there are step stools for the makeup and hair people when she is between scenes. Then you have the Ikrans carrying off the SteadyCam Operator. What a mess. ;-)

^I can see James Cameron yelling to the Na'vi stuntmen on Pali-back, "Don't look at the camera!" in Coppola fashion. The look on the Key Grips face when he accedentily munches on some Teylu at the caste refreshment table. Tsu'Tey trying to learn how to do wheelies in the wheelchair off camera...you know that is a bad recipe.

Quaritch falls to the ground as Neytiri puts two arrows in his chest. And then immediately from behind a stand of trees, James Cameron comes out. "OK, Miles, that was good, but this time let's try a little more emotion. Neytiri, you got to show the audience that you're really, truly defending Jake here. Let's try a little snarl this time? OK, places everyone!"

Its Sam Worthington you have to feel sorry for though, a gurling production schedule both in human form and in avatar form.

And who would have thought that Mo’at was such a prima donna; it’s almost a morning ritual that James has to coax her out of the trailer.

If it was flimed on location i would be the first to sign up as a cameraman even if the chances of getten eaten are extremely high!

Sign me up as well, although I need to brush up on my ikran riding skills so we can get some awesome POV shots.

Great now I've got the image of a ikran wearing a high visablity vest to differentiate it from the actors.

From what I heard, the biggest prima donna on the set was Tsu'tey. Everything had to be perfect, everything had to be Just Right or else he'd stomp back to his trailer and not come out. Cameron almost had a cow a few times over Tsu'tey and his demanding ways. But, at least they finally got the film done and finished, so that is saying something right there.
