PhysOrg Mobile: Science overturns view of humans as naturally 'nasty' (http://pda.physorg.com/news/2012-02-science-overturns-view-humans-naturally.html)
All though this view isn't new, new evidence seems to be giving it more support.

There is a concept known as "basic goodness" that comes from the roots of Buddhist practice that is very much in line with this as well , we are not born into the world aggressive , but as we age our exposure to competive sociaty flips our view on the world and its peoples to come from fear instead trust, and compassion for others,

Of course we are naturally good. No social species could survive if their basic instinct was to lie, kill and steal.

Tipical philosophical theme of being born 'pure', living as innocent kids, and then once experiences and years kick in, we all change don't we... Though I wonder, if we're all the same, and we we're all good, then who was the first bad person? Satan I guess. Once you're grown up you decide wether to be 'nasty' or not, there's instinct and there's Brain and virtue, up to each one to choose...

Thank you very much for this post. When I am reminded of things like this, it brings me a lot of comfort.

First "bad" human was the first one to break instinct for personal benifit.
I don't like the idea of Satan. We are at fault for our mistakes. Not some sort of cosmic moustache-twirling bad guy.
Even if you take the word of the bible literally Satan isn't even "bad" per sey. He is simply one who tests humans to see how devoted they are.
My understanding is that he is supposed to be the one angel with permission to question God. Everything he does (not counting revelations which I don't think even the most devoted christian should be taking literally since it is a pile of non-sensical ravings even by the standards of religion) is with the permission of God.

EVE online begs to differ. We're in a simulation that allows us to lie, cheat, steal, and kill without real consequence. We do all that. Often.
Humans are dicks.

Instinct has nothing to do with eve. Its a purely cerebral pastime which makes it amoral.

^Fair enough mate. It's hard to talk in between opposite beliefs, but I appreciate what you said, it is quite true. I know I'm a human like everyone else, a useless sinner, so I'm saying this at my own risk, just my honest opinion, don't even know If I'm much of a good Christian at all sometimes... Wether you believe in God or the Bible, or Not, what you said, in what I quoted in this post^, is true. It makes me wonder everytime on the fact, that people, humans, Can be benign and good, even if they don't believe in God, It's not exactly 'What you do', that's a sort of 'Mechanism' type catholic mentality which is wrong, because you have to be Good inside, not show off hypocricy. Anyhow, these discussions go on forever and never really get to a point, because humans are too complicated, so the reason I believe in God is exactly this, because I realize I can't fathom what the **** I'm doing in my life, if not by believing there Must be a God that beholds the world and all this mess...

If we look at Ultima (in this case its virtue sytem spoken of by Richard Garriott the game creator) instead of Eve as an example, we see a whole diffrent picture, where Virtue and humility hold value , I think many people are starting to realise our underlying faults but as long as there are people stiring contorversy and mistrust there are seeds we all to often fall to see twisting our reality away from oneness This is at the root of human Tribalism as well and we all need to "see" this if we are to change. (search ultima 4 game play on youtube if interested in how this example works)
