So I was thinking..and it might have already been talked about but...hey. WHat would happen....if a na'vi were to unbraid his/her braid? would the white tendrils just be let loose? Or do you think they would die from shock or something?

The tendrils are just the tip of the queue. Most of it is like a long tube like the other creatures have, and they braid their hair to protect that. If they unbraided it, it would look like the queues of anything else on Pandora. You can see a Na'vi whose braid is loose the first night Jake is with the Omaticaya.

I don't recall what her queue looked like but Neytiri also has unbraided hair after her and Jake mated and she awoke to the bulldozers.

You're right her hair was unbraided but her queue was still braided.

Well I guess they are also born with Unbraided hair and Queue... Anyhow, it might not be a good idea to try but I doubt it would 'die' straight away... Maybe they can re-generate aswell like a lizard's tail? :)

You only see a small portion of it, but there's a tube like thing on the back of his head just like what you see on the animals.

Yeah I agree, thanks Enigma, I'd never looked so close up :)

What's interesting to note is that this Na'vi has his queue at the base of the skull, which is a typical feature of an avatar, the normal Na'vi braid growing from the top of the skull (this can be seen in numerous scene: Neytiri's braid is clearly not starting at the base).
Is it voluntary or is it a CG error, I have no idea. But if it's voluntary then why is he like this? Has he a genetic anomaly? Is he an avatar? Unlikely, since he doesn't have the five digit hand of one... But then what? A hint to the sequel?

It would ultimately depend on how much freedom Cameron gave Weta when they were doing the CGI, if it was something he wanted included or whether the team dicided to stick it in.

Given the work done in the background scenes, I go for a middle answer. He probadly included a list of things that might be included and let them get on with it, taking a lot at each bit and saying yes, no or and add this bit.

The Pandorapedia says (http://www.pandorapedia.com/navi/appearance_behavior/navi_queue), "From birth on, the Na’vi individual’s hair is painstakingly braided over the antenna-like neural whip, protecting it from harm." So I wonder who braided those of the Avatars in their tanks?

As you can see on the picture above, the hair-braids starts at the top of the head and include the queue at the base of the scull. So its similar for Na'vi and avatars.
