Sam Worthington loves his nomadic lifestyle so much, he's vowed to remain homeless for as long as possible.

The Australian actor sold all his possessions to pursue his career in Hollywood, and he's been living in hotels and sleeping on a pal's couch ever since.

And despite his hefty pay cheque from movie parts including a leading role in Avatar, Worthington intends to stay homeless for as long as possible - because he loves living like a "gypsy".

He tells Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine, "The white picket fence in Australia has never really appealed to me. I'm not very responsible when it comes to mortgage, bills, paperwork...

"I could have had that years ago and I chose not to. Maybe when I'm 60 I'll settle down. At the moment I like my lifestyle. I've got a bag of clothes and a bag of books. I don't own a phone and I don't want to own one. Sydney's home but I am never normally there. I'm a gypsy. I go where the work is."

This realy apeals to me. Take me a while to purge 40+ years of accumulated stuff. Hmm guess I could just donate it all to a charity and use it to offset drawing out all my pretax investment accounts. Not sure I could get the wife to go along wit that...

given that he probably has unlimited funds at his disposal - thank you Avatar, all he needs is a smartphone, suitcase or 2 and perhaps a few postal boxes scattered around the world for mail? I can't imagine living that type of nomadic life, I like having one fixed place that I can call home.

What is amazing is, it's easy for a person like me, that has nothing really, to say '**** it all' I'm going to Pandora, but damn, he's Jake Sully yo!!! It's amazing, he can have all the money and fame he wants, he's even been the closest to Pandora anyone else will ever be, he actually lived AVATAR, so for him to do what he is doing... I can't explain just how awesome I think he is... Humble, that's the word... He really is the Rider of Last Shadow... I See You Sam <3

Sounds like Sam hears a different calling than what most Hollywood success types follow. That's not to say a nice home someplace isn't a bad thing, but his adandonment of status-quo trappings is surprising. He is living in the moment, unburdened by bills and long term obligations. Sounds like one life ended and another began. I hope he is always happy and has peace in his heart as he certainly sounds like he dose.

IMO Sam should settle down. IMO I do like his outlook on dealing with the fame of being an actor. He has all that money,but doesn't flaunt it about like most big stars do.

I think his intentions are good, but he may have gone a little overboard? imo he should at least rent his own apartment... It doesn't have to be anything special if he doesn't want to flaunt his wealth.

he might be enjoying his downtime by travelling all over because later this year it's back to work in a big way, I don't think he'll have much time to roam the world working on Avatar II and III.

lol, i'm just like Sam, money DOES NOT bring happiness. Think about it, it may make ur life easier, but being public about having alot of money just invites criminals to your door step. I read an article about how the WSOP(world series of poker) winner who won 8 million dollars or whatever in that annual Vegas tourney, was victim to a home invasion, got beat up, and had his valuables stolen. I admit when I was like 16-18 I was slightly addicted to gambling, and God am I glad I don't do that anymore. Gambling causes nothing but stress and depression, and I'm glad that part of my life is over. I'm very loose as far as buying stuff goes, If I see it I like it, I don't keep a record of my payments really, and I'm very open to giving homeless people money if they are legit. Like the other day I saw a guy and wanted to give him 4 dollars, but couldn't because the light was green and people behind me would get pissed. I hoped that he would be there when I came back home a few hrs later, but he wasn't. I'm sure Sam still has a ton of money, but it's good to know he doesn't like to flash it, like some celebrities.

I heard on the radio just after avatar had come out that when Sam got the call telling him he had the part he said he'd call them back for the details because he was in the middle of helping a mate move house.
