Its not suprising. Most of the people who watch no TV news these days spend alot of time on the internet, the single greatest sourse of knowledge that humans have ever created. I think that before long people who don't wach TV news will be more knowledgeable on average than people who watch TV news regardless of channel.

I like the idea of basing money off time. Leaves a good baseline for judging value. If somone is doing a high skill job then they can make extra time per hour worked.

Set minimum wage as an hour per hour and scale up from there.

National debt ceiling, well frankly I just don't understand money. Like, when a factory loses money, and has to shutdown, and fire its workers I don't get it. The goods are still there that the factory needs. The factory is still there with all its working parts. The workers looking for work are there, and the good the factory produced is still needed. SO why is there no factory?

Imperialism, it's a nice thought that we try to help other countries, but we are mostly helping ourselves, because the only reason we get involved in world affairs is so we can make a profit from it.

Two faced politicians - "rally round the family pockets full of shells" when politicians say they support family values, but also war, it bugs me, because they get votes for saying :family values" then they want to take us to war, which seems to be the opposite of family values to me.

Corporate controlled congress - has anyone ever seen the movie Mr. Smith goes to washington? If not, it's a pretty good example of corporate controlled congress

Brain washing - we are taught from such an early age how important our country is. Personally I'm not too huge a fan of mine. I think we should be past countries now, and realize Earth isn't made up of lines drawn on a map; it's made up of people. The least we can do is pretend to like each other.

irresponsibility - BP? war on terror, the modern red scare.

voter apathy and fraud - it seems like there isn't enough time to get involved. If I go to school, study, run, workout, my day is over and it's time to start a new one, not much time to get to a political rally, not to mention I don't really have the money to lobby in congress. What should I saw "Oh hey mr. boehner (pronounced buhr-nuh, not bay-ner) I got 5 bucks, how about I take you out to a fancy meal at subway, and can split a $5 foot long, while we talk about funding for the epa?"

Ja'k Dawsiin
11-24-2011, 08:32 AM
the national debt ceiling is the very stretched limit to which we can push the debt and still pay the interest payments on that debt, and have enough money left to fund the federal budget, support the armed forces, and pay all the entitlements owed to retirees, pensioners, gov't politicos and non-retired social security collectees. unfortunately for future generations, that maximum debt ceiling was reached under the first Bush after the colossal expenditures of the Gulf War in 1990-91,to the tune of 4.6 trillion, and that figure was estimated that it would take 35 years of interest payments to pay down that debt, provided that inflation and new taxpayer levels remained relatively normal. LOL....since then, every Congress and President has raised the debt ceiling, increased federal spending, and the inflation level has been all over the board, high unemployment levels, recession, market crashes, and there are fewer people paying taxes today than in 1992,as many of the 1 percent rich are hiding their money overseas to avoid high taxes in the 48-60 percent range. now,the national debt is in the 14 trillion range, give or take a trillion, lol, and there is no way that debt can ever be paid down unless we sell off territories, states, national landmarks, overseas bases, etc,or maybe these countries that hold our loan markers in the form of federal bonds, decide to forgive us our debt,as we have forgiven theirs many times in the past. yeah, like that'll happen.

someone said in 2010,that every single person of the current 337 million population of the United States, owned a $38,500 chunk of that national debt, and that was then. *shaking my head*

transcend

yea .. time exchange is cool.. hopefully some banker wouldn't exploit it.. what i think is the most relevant or interesting point is that there is really no lack of work.. like taking care of mom.. or pulling weeds for that matter.. that is why the ccc was so cool.. it was a program that was a forest army.. young people were employed who planted trees and rebuilt infrastructure.. and it produced great results..
and that story is another story of the evil corp killing it too.. :,(

DeMouse
11-24-2011, 08:51 PM
I don't think the problem is that there is a lack of work. I ihnk its that people expect too much work. In modern western society the technology is great enough that people shouldn't need a full-time job to support themselves.

But i tihnk that is a societal problem that has to change befor ethe politics can.

check this out.. there goes the constitution

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ignoring a presidential veto threat, the Senate moved methodically Thursday to complete a massive defense bill that would deny suspected terrorists, even U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention.
The Senate rejected an effort by Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein to limit a military custody requirement for suspects to those captured outside the United States. The vote was 55-45. Feinstein, D-Calif., said her goal was to ensure "the military won't be roaming our streets looking for suspected terrorists."
The issue divided Democrats with nine senators, many facing re-election next year, breaking with the leadership and administration to vote against the amendment. Republicans held firm, with only Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Mike Lee of Utah backing Feinstein's effort.
Overall, the bill would authorize $662 billion for military personnel, weapons systems, national security programs in the Energy Department and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.....

21 more shopping days until Christmas, Europeans. Maybe they won’t round up for Custerville Heights Fema Camp until after Christmas? Maybe the Merchants have told them, Noooo, we have to line our pockets with more money first.

I wrote a short story where Jesus comes back to earth as a human being and he wants a Cut off the Profits from the Merchants using his name to Sell Product to line their greedy pockets, and they shoot him. Jesus goes around to all your greedy sleazy tax free Churches asking for a Cut of the Profits for using his name to get rich, and they shoot him. How about a Tv show where Jesus just kind of hangs out with the homeless, and maybe us Indians, called, Everyone Is Getting Rich off of Jesus Except Jesus. Jesus is wondering around and Christians try to hustle him to their Church and “Convert” to their Religion and Politics. They keep trying to get him, “Saved” and tell him all about himself. They tell Jesus he has to vote for Ron Paul, and Jesus says, I don’t vote, and Ron Paul never rule in the Kingdom of Heaven, and that’s freedom. Jesus tells them there isn’t any Senate of Rome that rules in the Kingdom of Heaven, and the cretin idiots say, Huh? What? And then Jesus adds, That’s freedom. Who knows, maybe Creator/God/God Almighty’s idea of Freedom and your idea of Freedom are two different things altogether. If they ever do start rounding you up what can I say except, Welcome to the Rez. Don’t shoot, Europeans, I am just an old dumb stupid Indian. I am just passing through your lunatic insane asylum rat race cash register world upon the earth. Have a Happy Meal at McDonalds. Rez living isn’t all that bad. Kick back in the old Lazyboy Recliner. Watch some Tv. You’ll get used to Custeville Heights Fema Camp in hardly no time at all. Maybe they give you some poison **** killer called, Round Up, to kill the weeds in Custerville Heights Fema Camp? Big time, huh? Be just like your at home. Maybe they will have some John Deere riding lawn mowers for you to keep the grounds of Custervilled Heights Fema camp neatly mowed. Be just like your at home. Be just like your in your White Boy Heaven on Earth now. Gomer says, Hey. Maybe they will have Tv for you. Be just like your at home. See if Granny cooks up some Possum Pie for Jethro. You have nothing to worry about at all because it will be just like your at home. What do you do now except work, eat, poop, shop, watch some Tv, get on the Net, blah blah blah, this, that, and the other. Maybe they will put in putt putt golfing so you can get in your golfing, too. Be just like your right at home. Blah blah

Civil Disobedience (Resistance to Civil Government) is an essay by American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau that was first published in 1849.

Thoreau's Civil Disobedience espouses the need to prioritize one's conscience over the dictates of laws. It criticizes American social institutions and policies, most prominently slavery and the Mexican-American War.http://www.avatar-forums.com/images/imported/2011/12/1.php?ord=447632531Thoreau begins his essay by arguing that government rarely proves itself useful and that it derives its power from the majority because they are the strongest group, not because they hold the most legitimate viewpoint. He contends that people's first obligation is to do what they believe is right and not to follow the law dictated by the majority. When a government is unjust, people should refuse to follow the law and distance themselves from the government in general. A person is not obligated to devote his life to eliminating evils from the world, but he is obligated not to participate in such evils. This includes not being a member of an unjust institution (like the government). Thoreau further argues that the United States fits his criteria for an unjust government, given its support of slavery and its practice of aggressive war.Thoreau doubts the effectiveness of reform within the government, and he argues that voting and petitioning for change achieves little. He presents his own experiences as a model for how to relate to an unjust government: In protest of slavery, Thoreau refused to pay taxes and spent a night in jail. But, more generally, he ideologically dissociated himself from the government, "washing his hands" of it and refusing to participate in his institutions. According to Thoreau, this form of protest was preferable to advocating for reform from within government; he asserts that one cannot see government for what it is when one is working within it.

well, this thread has gone dead, especially in an election season like 2012. LOL

i have no hope for the Republitards, nor do i take much stock in the Democraddicts,at this point. i have voted for both parties,in my eight trips to the voting booth,2 presidential elections and 6 congressional/governor elections, and i am not a labelled voter, nor loyal to any political brand,as they are both corrupt and self-serving. i would vote for a third party in a heartbeat,if it actually meant more a wasted vote on some rich clown like Steve Forbes. i like some of the stuff from Ron Paul, but he is really too old to get elected. i hate to point out age,but Ron Paul, who is 77 or so,has no chance against a 50 something Obama,or even some of the republitards in their 50s. youth pretty much wins in the present political climate, and i still completely lol when i hear 50 referred to as 'youth' in political discussions and debates.

i still don't think the FAUXnews clowns have recovered from Obama's birth joke yet, lol, and while i'm not the biggest supporter of Pres. Obama,i did vote for him because i couldn't stand the waffling McCain and his assclown vice-pres. pick, palin. god,i couldn't stand that two-faced loser who made a complete joke of herself on SNL. i was no fan of the Clintons either, and was really tired of eight years of Bush and his oil wars. i figured Obama could bring something new to the game,so i voted for him. i'm still not sure about 2012,but there is no republitard i would vote for,at all. i don't understand how a mormon like romney is their front runner candidate. mormons are like muslims, political poison. *shaking my head*

here are gifs of Obama's birth joke,and i still lol,because i really despise FAUXnews.(and FOX for cancelling highly-rated Firefly,grrrrrr)

From my perspective both Republicans and Democrats are in the same boat... they're enemies of the United States.

They're all millionaires.

They've both been in control.

They both play political games.

They've both screwed this country up almost beyond repair.

When something comes up they point the finger at each other.

They're playing a game... we're buying into it... they're the one's benefiting from it while we suffer. They're all in on it and they're all to blame.

I got out of the Republican VS. Democrat game a few years ago once I realized it's nothing more than a political game and WE THE PEOPLE are being played!

Don't get drug into the... "Republicans are better! No Democrats are better! Republicans screwed this country up! No they didn't Democrats screwed this country up!"

They all did it! They've both been in control recently and it doesn't matter which one is in control things just seem to continually get worse.

It's called... corruption.

If Obama is the president again the only reason is because there's no one worth voting for. I'm not sure who will vote for him though because no one... and I mean no one I know is voting for Obama. People I know who voted for him the first time have told me they aren't voting for him this time. If you speak to a Black person in Texas they will tell you they are against Obama. That's why Obama is trying to secure the Hispanic vote because he knows the Black vote isn't going to be as strong this time around. Obama has been surrounded in a lot controversy lately. From his address about the Treyvon Martin case, his stance on gay marriage, the CIA scandal, and now with his "let's make illegal immigrants legal for the election year" ...you have a few controversial things to choose from and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

I'm so disgusted with the situation in the political scene that I'm just not going to vote this year. Republicans and Democrats are politicians and politicians have screwed up what was once a beautiful country. It doesn't matter what party you vote for you're just voting for the same people.

It is not Republicans Vs. Democrats...

It's Politicians Vs. America

It's The Government Vs. The People

Republicans and Democrats work together... they make deals "I'll vote for that bill if you'll vote for this one." They work together... when the government reached up and grabbed the handle to flush this country down the toilet it was pulled by the hands of both Republicans and Democrats.

...And when our government wasn't selling us out... the national banks and huge corporations were.

If Mitt Romney gets it you'll see that not a damn thing changes it'll be like President Bush never left the White House because the same people who were in control when President Bush was in office are still in control now.

This is going to be complex.

As britian moved away from industry and towards the service sector, the amount of non-skilled jobs have decreased, meaning there is more competition for jobs meaning that people see skill/degrees as a way of making them more attractive to companies. At the same time jobs have become more technical since the computer has changed the work place. With this in mind people increasingly saw university and higher education as the way to secure a good job.

As such the John Major and Tony Blair governments set about massively increasing higher education capacity, via a number of way, such as turing Polytechnics (a type of technical colledge) into their own universities. However this created a problem, the cost of higher education was increasing naturally but also the increase in the numbers in higher education meant a higher bill for the government at the end of the day. To solve this the Tony Blair government shifted some of the cost from the government/tax payer to the student by creating tuition fees in 1998 and turning the matiance grants (money give) to loans (money to be repayed). However this had to be increased (from £1000 to £3000) as the cost of higher education increased and the government was unwilling to either make cut backs elsewhere or cause poltical damage by raising taxes to fund it.

When the coalition came in 2009 with a mission to cut public debt and reduce spending, they saw the bill for higher education as an easy target to acheive this. So they increased the fees to £9000 maximum. They thought that only the elite univeristies would go for the maximum. However due to the fact that they didn't publish thier report on the future of higher education funding the universities paniced and took thr £9000 to secure their cash flow. There is also the probablity that the conservatives believe that elite higher education should/is be reserved for the upper class, and that this is a way of disencouraging the working class from going into elite instutions.

Is £9000 a year worth a degree? With the economy as it is and low skilled jobs hard to find, young people still see higher education as a good thing and worth the price. However it remains to be seen if they will continue to see like that as the full cost of the new student loans becomes apparent to them.

i always find it amusing, not in a lol kinda way, that republitards always preach 'family values' then have hollywood people out there stumping for them. i wish actors would shut the f**k up and just vote in private like the rest of us, and that includes you too, Dirty Harry. geez, what a moron getting up there like that, with a closet overflowing with non-family values skeletons. do these hollyweirdos even think about hypocrisy?! *shaking my head*

Thankyou you for this post Exostrike, very interesting and helpful to me, being completely ignorant to these socio/economical issues, I hate it All. But It kind of makes sense I guess... Still sucks though.

at one point in my twelve years of voting, i was a Republican because they were the only party that supported the military, then i switched sides for idealistic reasons and tired of seeing the military people coming home in coffins for a useless war(s) based on oil, and our resultant puppet gov'ts in those countries collapsing as soon as we left, then i voted a couple of times in local elections, for the independent party, only to see that vote matter less than 5%. i now find myself stuck somewhere in the middle, but there are no 'middle of the road' moderate candidates, only the right-wing religious nutjobs and the left-wing lunatics who want the broke-*** central gov't to give you everything for free. who the hell do you left-wing lunatics think pays for all the stuff that everyone gets for 'free'???! the rapidly-decreasing and heavily taxed 'middle-class', of course, or what's left of it. there is no fix here sadly, both sides want to increase taxes hugely, spend more hugely, and do less than nothing to fix the now official 16 TRILLION NAT'L DEBT. *shaking my head at our mess of the once-great USA*

This is mainly due to America's lack of truth and impartiality laws for television. This means that the tv stations can bend the news to their poltical views. In the UK TV is required to be impartial (apart from the UK FOX channel which is legally a entertainment channel to escape the law) so this kind of poltical news manipulation goes on in the newspapers.

Generally I would advise you to use which ever channel is closest to your poltical tastes, and failing that just use reuters which has no poltical spin on its publications, mainly because it sell its reports to other news channel who do the spinning.

fox news covered the republitard convention in it's entirety, duh, and also covered much of the democraddict convention as well, but not one of the sh*tty networks or commienewscnn or cable even covered ONE MINUTE of the republitard convention, and they all literally fought each other tooth and nail, to cover the democraddict crapfest. that should tell you all you need to know about the 'fairness' in the american trashmedia. grrrrrrr

i can proudly say that i watched not one second of either convention, nor do i give a flying eff what either sh*tty party has to say or offer. neither party has any clue how to fix the mess we are in, nor has the voting public any stomach for buckling down and doing what needs to be done. but oh yes, that same public of fat couch potatoes can watch fake celebrities with huge rear-ends parade around and talk about useless crap on the 'future' of this country. *shaking my head at the sheer idiocy of america*

I feel bad for our American neighbours, your choice is that you really have no choice, both parties sold out to corporate interests decades ago when they allowed them to start outsourcing your manufacturing sector to the cheapest countries on the planet, it's been a quick slide downhill ever since with no change on the horizon, the 2 class system has taken root.

i was rather annoyed to see then-governor Bill Clinton on the Arsenio Hall show in one of the political flashback shows on CNN, but now we have to see a sitting-President appearing on the David Letterman Show?! wow, the White House position has sunk to a new low, but then what do you expect from the jersey shore generation?! i'm only a few years older than today's generation, but even i thought the President and White House had some class....guess i was wrong. *sighs sadly*

i find it ironically amusing that mitt romtard is against abortion, but he signed an abortion clause for his son Tagg's surrogate birth mother, because he was paying some of the bills in the arrangement. apparently, the son Tagg and his wife couldn't conceive, so they used a surrogate mother, and had twins, but daddy mitt had to help with the costs, and therefor had to sign consent forms and other legal arrangements in case of medical or the woman not wanting to give up the child or children. one of the clauses was for abortions in non-life threatening situations.

republitards, of which oven mitt is one, only believe in abortion for incest, rape, and life-threatening health situations to the mother.

republitard mitt signs approval of non-life threatening abortion clause.

do you not see the inherent hypocrisy and irony here?!

Well, I agree that it's going to be tough for Mitt to deal with the fact that HE started what became Obama Care( kind of funny in a non-funny sense), although I think the writer of that thinks Obama's doing a decent job.... as the debt clock races up like the Space Shuttles used to:(. They are both full of you know what, I just can't wait until it is over with so I can get ready for Christmas, lol.

i am not a fan of either candidate, one the sitting President with a dubious record and fully in the pocket of hollywierd and unions, the other a complete and utter a**clown with an even more atrocious history of mediocrity, lies, hypocrisy, and religious nuttery. personally, if i do make it to the voting booth, i will probably pencil in my vote for the Green Party candidate. i am sick of the two parties, and the Libertarian party candidates are pretty much unelectable tools, as full of crap as that two-faced party jumper, Ron Paul. i lost all respect for him when he left the third party arena and sold his soul to the republitards. grrrrrrrrrrr!!! he was the only electable candidate of the current third parties. *sighs*

since becoming unemployed a few days ago, and having a head full of jumbled thoughts and ideas, i have seriously lost any interest in this race and politics in general, not that i really have had that interest lately anyway. it's just that there are no candidates from any of the parties or movements, that are interesting even in the slightest. i had thought there were a couple of female governors that were considering campaigns, but i guess they had too many skeletons in their closets.

oven mitt just killed any political chance he had at getting younger voters, when he went on a rant about PBS and Big Bird, and defunding the network as a cost-cutting method to start working on the national debt. well, that was a dumb move. PBS represents like one 100th of 1% of the federal budget, and the gov't wastes BILLIONS on crop subsidies, useless space adventures, putting NON-VIOLENT potheads in the federal slam instead of legalizing and TAXING it, keeping US military and gov't employees in 150 countries, spending trillions on useless oil wars, etc etc etc. geez, he wants to save a couple of bucks by cutting the educationally-minded PBS. i loved Sesame Street when i was growing up. grrrrrr

say hello to our next President, Barack Obama.
