Horrible roommates are those people who simply believe they live alone even when they don't. And in doing so they are both clueless and as inconsiderate as humanly possible. I currently have a room mate like that - but not for long.

When I came back from Florida in August, I moved into the first place I could find. I had no choice, it was cheap, I was poor, and it was available. Unfortunately it came with all the filth, noise, and dogs that one could possibly imagine.

My roommate at the time had 9 dogs. 5 adult and 4 puppies; I affectionately called home "the kennel". The dogs spend most of the time doing what dogs do, as they are not trained, and they do not respect their master. That said the smells, filth, and general mess are everything you may image it to be. Thank god for candles and headphones. (stop laughing).

My time in the kennel is about up as I'm moving out in mid December. I plan to head back to El Segundo in Los Angeles, which is one of my favorite areas. I love animals, especially dogs, but this room mate just ruined that for me. It's gone, I never want an animal again. :moody:

i had a horrible roommate in the 3 years between graduating high school/moving the f**k out of my crazy parents house, and getting my current place where i have been for a few years now. this guy was a friend of mine from a temp summer job after graduation, and the only decent thing i can say about his being my roomate for 3 nutty years, was he always paid the rent on time, but it was always hit and miss on his half of the electricity, water, cable, and phone. he partied 8 nights a week, literally, but saved enough money from his two crappy jobs, like mine lol,for the rent and flung the rest of his money to the far corners of the five-city area...strip clubs,bars,off-track betting, hookers, parties, more parties,3-day all night benders....holy crap,he wore me out with his coming in at all hours, and he had a thing for big girls, and i mean BIG girls, lol.

he was completely happy with a not a cent to his name, for 10 days of a 14 pay period, and still got stuff somehow. *shaking my head* he got me for utilities, and the occasional beer(s). lol

people ask why i put it with it for so long before moving out over three years later.........:embarrassed: well,i'll tell ya...he always got me into these insane parties, occasionally steered a big girl my way, yeah i know, was great with vehicle repairs(for free),and always had the rent on time. but after three years, even these pluses weren't enough,as all the non-rent bills kept getting more expensive, and he gave not one f**k other than rent.

roommate from hell?? yeah,i feel your pain....

That's considerable, but not as horrible as having room-mates who will do nothing but yap until 3'0 clock in the morn... Especially when you have classes in the morning or if you are a early riser at times. Let's make this simple, it's not fun when you're trying to sleep and all you hear is "huh uh, my boyfriend blah, blah blah..."

I'm glad my cats only wake me for food, and that's not that often.

My roommate went out of town for the weekend, and won't be back until Sunday night!

Break out the wine glasses.

One dog was left with a neighbor, well, because he's a boy and one of the other dogs, is a girl, and she's in heat. Yep, it's everything you can imagine it to be. So there's 4 dogs in the back yard, with a bag of dog food and two bowls of water. They're waiting for my roommate to return, but that will be a while. I'm making Fajitas, having a glass of wine, secretly hoping the dogs escape. :dog:

My roommate is not horrible but is the most boring person on the face of the earth.
Sits in his room and plays Star-Craft from 10 in the morning till 2 in the morning, getting up to eat the same meal every day for both breakfast and lunch.
He doesn't have any friends. I don't think he has a job or ever actually leaves his room.
The few times he isn't playing a video game he stares at me and makes comments on what i'm doing.

Video game addiction, another one of my favorite subjects.

When people find that their life, the rewards, and the relationships inside the game are more important than real life; it's an addiction. Interesting the American physiological association has yet to classify this type of disorder, citing more research is needed. Trust me, it's a addictive mental disorder brought on by depression.

People play video games largely for fun, but sometimes it becomes an escape. Addicted video gamers are checked out from reality. Spending nearly every waking moment playing their favorite game, and annoyed when they are not. Here's the caveat with this type if addiction. If you're single, this addiction is cheap and it doesn't hurt anyone else. I believe that's why the APA hasn't classified this disorder yet. Nevertheless your roommate needs a wake up call, before he turns to another more destructive addiction.

Did you have any luck with this Lon? lol

Sadly no. Here's another stone added to the mix. My roommate somehow managed to rent out the tiny third bedroom to another lady And get this, she let her move in last night at 1:00 AM. I was pretending to sleep through it all debating whether or not to pack my gear and immediately head for a hotel. The dogs were barking for an hour while they scraped bedroom furniture down a tight hallway at 1:00 AM. Now the new roommate has just realized she has made a huge mistake by moving in here. The dogs are horribly obnoxious, and their owner is a clueless lazy slob.

If that lady had only spoken to you before she moved in...

What is wrong with some people!?!? How do you be so clueless and dumb to let everything pass you by, such as cleanliness and decency not to keep your roommates awake at 1 am.

I'll be glad when you are out of there Lon, can't even imagine how you feel.

In some ways I've become numb to it all. Through the use of some fine candles, headphones, and a door lock, I've managed to keep most of it out of my room. However last night, with the furniture scraping at 1:00 AM, I about had it. It was a total three-stooges moment that seemed to last for hours.

Seriously, I could have saved the new roommate from what has already become a real headache. But I understand that some people are desperate, perhaps staying wherever and need a solid room to sleep in. Even if it comes with lots of noise and some unpleasant smells. We had a short chat today, and I filled her in on all the gory details that she's about to discover. She already found a few, like dog crap in random locations, thin walls, the barking, clutter, hoarding, and the relentless dog smells. And I'm not exaggerating.

The horrible roommate is currently having an intimate conversation on the phone with one of her many boyfriends. That's right, through some kind of unseen magic, she actually has boyfriends. Lots of them; and yes they're all scary people or at least those that I've seen. She has corralled many of them back here for a night of fluid exchange marked with a morning of more dog barking. I know this because, sadly, the walls are paper thin and anything louder than a whisper is heard in all the bedrooms.

God bless the candles and headphones.

What in the world do you listen to in those headphones to escape that madness?

Often it's work related as we meet online in chat to discuss projects.

Late at night it's Netflix or perhaps FOX online for Terra Nova, Bones, or over to Amazon Instant Video for any number of instant downloads. Remember I have no TV. Currently I'm watching Bon Jovi: Live at Madison Square Garden, which is also available on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004D2GMR6/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=tundrasolutions&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B004D2GMR6) as a DVD or Bu-ray disc. (Shameless plug).

for some reason, this line caused me to choke on my redbull and lol uproariously, sorry. :embarrassed:

my crazy roommate was into the big girls, and i mean BIG,and he 'corralled' lots of them back to the house for fluid exchanges...oh god,the bad memory visuals. i have since seen a few of these girls, and they always ask about him, even though he used them, left them sticky and crying, and they still want the badboy, lol. he did call me last Christmas from Tennessee where he lives now,but i am glad those crazy years are just a bunch of random memories now. i still consider a roommate every now and then,as i sure could use the extra money, but it would have to be someone like myself,lol...

So true my friend. The other roommate asked me how I put up with the smells. I gave her this advice. Always keep your door shut, keep the bathroom door shut, and light some candles. A cracked window also helps if it isn't too cold.

And speaking of the weather, WOW, we got nailed last night with one hell of a wind storm. In fact, all of northern California got hammered with strong winds. Today, fences were down, the power was off and on, tree limbs in the streets, just viscous weather rolled in around 2:00 AM.

Now I get what the candles are for, smell masking! duh lol

I saw on Yahoo news today pictures of trees and power lines blown over by wind, there sure is nothing like the wrath of nature. Hope your power stays on, I imagine it's easier to "escape" that place with electricity, the last thing you need is for your comp battery to die.

Heard there may be more Santa Anna winds tonight Lon

The winds pick up here after midnight. But the areas really getting hit include Simi Valley, Conejo Valley, and to the east in San Bernardino Valley. The system is slowly making its way to the east. A year ago I was living in my van in Simi Valley, and remember often getting hammered by those high winds.

12 days to go and I'm out of the kennel.

It's down to about 38 at night with no heat in the house. The owner has a lock box over the A/C controls and she decides when it's used. So I bought a small portable heater, and my room is a nice 75 or so. The rest of the house is freezing, probably in the upper 50's in the morning. It's often warmer outside during the day than in the house.

One of the dogs went into heat and the owner is doing a horrible job of keeping her away from the only male dog. She claims that she doesn't want her pregnant right now but if that was true she would have had her spayed or had the male neutered. Instead at some point she plans to allow her to get pregnant and then sell the puppies again. There's a massive 5x5 dog cage planted in the front room that's used to keep some dogs corralled. Thankfully I will not be around to endure any of it.

Roughly 5 days to go, and I'm out of this kennel.

I have the alarm set so I can wake up to see the full moon eclipse around 5 AM, Saturday morning, right before sunrise. It should be thrilling.

A nice story in the Los Angeles times about one of my favorite locals. (http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/la-fi-commre-el-segundo-20120115,0,4657755.story)

BTW, it's like a 5 minute drive to the new studio where AVATAR 2 will be filmed.
