._. no, famous people wouldn't go to Pandora. although if (insert talentless celebrity here) went there and got killed that would definitely be the most important news for weeks -_-

Few famous people could afford to take themselves out of the spotlight for the twelve years they'd have to spend in cryo getting there and getting back. I suppose a few very rich semi-retired famous people might do it for kicks.

Actually that was one rather obvious omission in Avatar: a lack of any sort of media presence on Pandora.

yeah,i have often wondered why the rda didn't have a sort of 'political officer' present at hellsgate, considering the umpteen quadzillions of currency invested in the venture. hmmm....

well, since the whole point of going to Pandora is for earth's "survival" i don't think they are willing to even sacrifice a bit of space for media personel to travel (and hence why celebrities wouldn't) it's all for RDA. i guess it makes sense though, you wouldn't want footage of "the good guys killing the evil aliens" and destroying Pandora (eco terrorists in 2154 probably make Al Qaeda look like noobs)

Also any media is probably done by on site staff. All you need is one guy with a camera pointing it at some one who wont freeze up in front of a camera and, viola you have your own news team.
And no celebrities would not go to Pandora unless they were a war hero.

In the project 880 there was a "free media officer" called Marcia De Los Santos.

From the script:
"It is her job to send home the inspiring footage used for corporate advertising and recruiting, though technically she is keeping a full and impartial record of the operation at Hell's Gate. Selfridge heavily edits her downlinks to Earth, claiming the "expense" of data transmission, but really it is ironfisted censorship."

She had a minor role in this version by siding with Jake, Grace and Trudy.

On the Pandorapedia (http://www.pandorapedia.com), there is two "interviews" from her. One is from a Scorpion pilot in the Scorpion page. The second is an interview of Trudy in the Samson article. Since this site seems to be canon, we can think that there is a media officer in Hell's Gate, though she is not shown in the film.
