Hello, I had recently became interested with the concept of glowing organisms and have since transfected bioluminescent plasmid dna (Pvib) into ecoli cells to produce a blue glowing strain... glowing plants are not a far jump from this point. I was wondering the maximum you would be willing to purchase a blue glowing plant.. just because im wondering if it would be economic to follow through with this. and might sell them. pandora plants : )

I would buy them.
I would buy alot of them.
:D Great idea, and good luck with the project if you go through with it!

I'd definitive buy them.
I think you could make a lot of money with your idea :)

I'd buy 1 or 2, if they looked cool : ) but they would have to be under $50 each for me.

What's wrong with earth's plants? hehe I keep a couple vases of flowers in my house at all times, But glowing plants would be cool. As long as it's biology doesn't cause harm to our natural botany then I'm cool with it :nsmile:

i would definitely buy some. i wouldn't put them in my room since i woud have troube sleeping at night, but a few in the frontyard, a few in the backyard and a few through out rooms in the house like living room, kitchen and computer room would be really nice :nsmile:

I would buy some!
If that is possible, somebody has to do it, definitly!

I would be one of the first to sign up. Would they glow just at night, or all of the time? Also what plants did you have in mind to make glow?
I would go up to $60.

arkfussion how can we keep in touch? I am very interested in your project and would like to be up to date with your progress.

I'm afraid I might buy too many. It wouldn't be all that hard to get plants to "light-up" either just insert genes to make them and it should happen it was easily done with mice by inserting the biolume gene of a jelly fish into them, but then again they are plants not necessarily another animal, but in theory it should work. Plants that light like those on Pandora would be a different matter to get them that bright and in patterns like those would be a task you would have to do more than simply manipulate the biolume gene you would have to restructure their code to create that and I'm pretty sure that would be more cost inefficient with today's technology than simply making a plant "glow".

there is a possibly that this concept could become reality. by inserting coloured nano particles into trees, they will glow that colour. i read this in an article.

you can email me at plasmaant@gmail.com i am still very into this progect and have purchased plasmids that are supposedly 1000 times brighter then my pvib plasmids

Didn't think this thread would still be going, but I'm not too sure if injecting plants with glowing plasma is a good idea. Then again that's science try it and find out! I think the only way to go is to genetically engineer the plants to produce bioluminescence by inserting jellyfish genes into their genetic code.

I'm still interested. If you ever get it to work, make sure to tell us. :nwink:

that sounds cool. definitely economic especially when done to trees as they could replace street lights. id buy one for sure. keep going on your experiments!

I'd love to by one, still, just one would be weird... You need a whole glowing purple forest to live the dream, plus Neytiri there too would give it a boost (just a little) Ahah Just the shiny dots on her body drive me crazy, she's so hot! :nlove:

it would be great and I would buy allot so my whole garden is in light. BUT I want that it is real bioluminscence and not just a sort "glow in the dark" stuff :)

I would be very interested! I already have a jungle in my room, addition of glowing plants to it... WOW.
But I agree with Sanjwale, it must be real bioluminescence.

*Comes over to help you make a forest* :D:D:D Man it's so beautiful and fascinating isn't it? :) yeah... I think it's pretty rare and hard to maintain... it only grows in some places, that one is in Australia somewhere I think

The glowing plants would be a neat idea, maybe they could complement artificial lighting. They would be real neat to have around in the living room at night with the lights off while watching Avatar, talk about a "4D experience" :nsmile:

i think that fungi is actually from the Amazon in Brazil.i wouldn't be surprised if it was in Australia as well though, fungi only needs heat, moisture and nutrients to grow so it doesn't require much.
