As the humans shuffle along to board the shuttle for the return trip to Earth, Selfridge walks past jake. He looks at him and almost says something. What do you think he was thinking?
I'l go first: “I just shut down the cooling pumps to the nuclear reactor plant. Good luck”
"Dammit Sully, because of you the shareholders will kill me when I will arrive on Earth because unobtainium's exploitation has failed by your fault. I will come back Sully, I will come back hahahaha"

Parker made eye contact with Jake one last time and thought, "Can't blame him for switching sides, that native chick was pretty hot."

Haha that's true. I am sure he said also "I will immediately join the AVTR program to get my Avatar then come back as an Avatar to find some other hot native chick, maybe Ninat or Beyral" :D

"I regret everything that happened, and I am sorry." Selfridge was not an evil man, he was weak willed and lacked foresight. He poked fun at the Na'vi because he could not grasp their cultural differences but he did not want to harm them.
People died. He has blood on his hands and he knows it. This man has a very good chance of drinking himself into an early grave over guilt.

I agree with this. That scene in the SE after the Na'vi attack on the dozers made Selfridge seem like less of a bad guy

I agree with this too. If you read the script, Parker tried to shut Quaritch down, but he was honestly muscled out. I honestly think he was sorry but didn't want to admit it.

I too, think that this statement sums up a great deal of Selfridge's thoughts. Every shot of him after the felling of Hometree seemed to paint a man who didn't like the actions being taken against the Na'vi. All-in-all Selfridge seemed like a man who in the end, wished that he understood the Na'vi in a context aside from damage reports and mounted artifacts sooner than he did.

Either that or he just didn't know how he could admit something like that and was crushed by guilt

I'm sure he didn't want all that blood on his hands but it was out of control at that point. Quaritch made it priority to "fight for survival" on land they don't even own, no matter how much the death toll would be or the damage to the forest.
At the point where we see him walk passed, he most likely was thinking that agreeing to take down hometree was the biggest mistake he could make and that now going back to earth, he will have to suffer the consequences of "bad press." Plus the he also realizes that Jake and the others who stayed behind now have a new (money free) home.

*Selfridge looks at Jake* "That necklace would look great in my office...wonder where he got it from...." *looks away* "...of course eBay!"

^This, I think deep down Selfridge is a good guy, its just that life has made him into a sort of "yes" man. He was trying to keep his job, but during the preparations for the attack you could see that he was seriously conflicted.

Unfortunately, the Bahamas are a barren dust-bowl surrounded by a very polluted sea, its beauty was "pocketed" by get-rich-quick types decades ago.

I agree with you. I do not think that he was a bad guy. He did try to help the Na'vi. I think he just made some wrong decisions.

The last part is definitely true, but, do really good guys say things like:
"Killing the indigenous looks bad, but there's one thing shareholders hate more than bad press -- and that's a bad quarterly statement."
I think he wanted it to end differently, but not for the benefit of the Na'vi, but for the benefit of the RDA. The difference between Parker and Quaritch is that Parker didn't want to deliberately kill to achieve his goals.
He did try to help the Na'vi
He did? When?

He avoided conflict for as long as possible and even gave Jake and hour to get them to move from Hometree after he agreed to an attack. You can tell by his expressions that conflict is the last thing he wants.

You should have a scene in the +16min Bluray/DVD where Quaritch and Selfridge arguing about Home Tree attack (you can see this scene in Avatar Making off). That's why I think so, that Selfridge try a bit to save the Na'vi.

I know Jake was thinking "GTFO" but as for Selfridge, hmm maybe "Well I'm f**ked" while giving a look to Jake looking for acceptance of the mistakes he made. I know Selfridge was a cool business guy and having people of either side die wasn't a part of his plan so he knows he goofed. Wasn't looking for forgiveness though. That's my opinion

I was thinking about this scene the other day, just imagine this scene had occured after the consciousness transfer scene. Just imagine this variation, Jake's dead human body was lying on a trolley, no exo-pack on so it's obvious his human body is dead, Selfridge files by and does a double take between Jake's dead human body and has Avatar (now Na'vi) body. Jake orders Selfridge to push the trolley onboard the shuttle (Jake's sending his human body back to Earth). What do you think Selfridge would have been thinking
