This is crazy - the want to build a highway for motor vehicles through the Serengeti National park!
Serengeti highway would disrupt world's greatest migration, conservationists warn (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/08/100825103824.htm)

That will be one nightmare for Bernhard Grzimek and not only his, if they really do this.
The article says there are other ways around, let's hope.
A highway through the Serengeti is as cruel as dams in the Amazon River.

I think its just more evidence, that when it comes to it, even supposedly protected areas, even though they may have been promoted by a man like Grzimek are opened up for "development". Setting up National Parks and protected zones only goes so far....

Yes, i believe those governments are reckless when it comes to nature, because they won't let anybody slow down their progress in order to catch up with western society.
So they repeat old mistakes and harm unique pieces of nature or pollute the air with unfiltered exhaust smoke.

Ah a highway through Serengeti, what a grand idea!

"Honey I think we just hit a possum.."
"Don't be silly that was a baby elephant, darn things!"

I hope this project doesn't amount to anything beyond paper...

Oh - and by the way - Serengeti was the first Park of its kind. It is at the very base of the practive to protect large areas for wildlife. Its kind of symbolic that this first park is now violated like this :(

Its crazy, that everyone wants to "catch up" with the insane way this culture lives and consumes. People living here already see that this is not working out, but that does not reach these governments. They are shortsighted - they should care for their people and their land and look beyond what the westerners do.
