AVATAR Re-Release Preview - 9 Minutes of Deleted Scenes (http://avatarblog.typepad.com/avatar-blog/2010/08/avatar-rerelease-preview-9-minutes-of-deleted-scenes.html)

Although Cameron originally planned 8 minutes, the final cut includes 9. One of the deleted scenes includes Tsu-tey's death: "There's a pretty powerful emotional scene at the end which is Tsu'tey's death ... which happens off-camera in the original release. he kind of falls off the back of the shuttle and that's the last that you see of him but here we follow through. We have this emotional scene with Jake [Sully] and Neytiri and some other Na'vi that gather around him in the forest," Cameron said. Cameron also says the additional AVATAR scenes include four major moments, each a few minutes long that center on when the helicopter first lands in the Pandora rainforest. There's also a new creature that turns up: the Sturmbeest. The director also said the scenes that were reinstated in the re-release version are big on non-top action.
Cameron also revealed that he's talked to the studio about shooting Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 sequels back-to-back (http://screenrant.com/avatar-2-3-shooting-back-to-back-schrad-72479/). “We’re actually talking about [doing 2 and 3] back to back. That’s not a decision yet but that’s something that makes a lot of sense given the nature of these productions because we can bank all the capture and go back and do cameras over a period of time… cause the way these sort of back to back productions fall apart is you’re trying to do two live-action films back to back and you’re working on it for like a year and a half shooting. Everybody’s dead- it’s not humanly possible. But this type of film it absolutely would work.”
[I]Are you excited about the new scenes that Cameron describes? Or were you hoping for something different?

Oh, this is so going to break me up emotionally just before the movie ends... Tsu'tey's death scene... I wept reading it in the screenplay. I already feel a lump in my throat thinking about actually seeing it! And I'm sure there will be lots of people with wet eyes leaving the theater after the credits have rolled past.

And if there are some idiots making fun of that scene, I'll make them eat their Real-D goggles!!

Wiggling bare toes, even more impatiently now,

Yeah, put me down for all of the above, seeing snippets of the new scenes just makes me want to see more.
I think that the Tsu'tey death scene will be the most poignant moment and is one that I have been hopeing for. The Sturmbeest hunt looks spectacular as well, although hints of the buffalo hunt in 'Dances with Wolves', but at least the buffalo hunt didn't have Ikrans flying overhead.

The excitement is really building and seeing these scenes have really got the juices flowing, and before you say 'eeewww', I mean the inspirational juices Haha.
This will only make the wait for the sequel so much harder, lucky we get the SE coming on DVD plus the novel to ease our suffering.

I think now I am finally getting very excited about the re-release - in only a few weeks! I don't even have any idea of where it would be playing in my area.
My only question is - why didn't they include these scenes when the movie was originally released?? If it is only going to extend the movie's playing time by nine minutes..well, I suppose that would have made the movie almost three hours long..but it's gonna be three hours long now, so whats the difference?

Cameron thought that the tsutey scene was just a notch too much drama, and decided to cut it out shortly before the movie came out. The crew couldnt believe that he did it since it was such a good and powerfull scene.

According to the trailers and other news, the dream-hunt and the party-scene seem not to be included. That would have been important scenes, these should be in the extended DVD.

The dream hunt is the Sturmabeast hunt. Then the party follows the hunt.

I know the Sturmabeast hunt is in the 9 min of extra footage.

No it isn't! The dream-hunt is just before Jake's adoption into the clan where he gets poisoned on purpose by a scorpion sting and gets a vision of becoming toruk macto. So this is important for the story.

from the wiki:
Uniltaron (English: Dream Hunt) is a rite of passage (http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Rites_of_Passage), in which Na'vi (http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Na%27vi) seek their spirit animal. During a chemically induced trance caused by the bite of an Arachnoid (http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Arachnoid) and swallowing a Glow Worm (http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Glow_Worms), they express themselves musically as the spirit moves.

it was in the original script (was available on the internet). An arachnoid is a scorpion-like creature.

I'm beginning to believe that the re-release is going to harm Avatar more than help it...

They wouldn't have spent hundreds of hours and millions of dollars recreating an extra nine minutes for the re-release if they thought it was going to flop.

My guess is that the deleted scenes will have the opposite effect and leave people wondering why they were deleted in the first place.

Another interesting thing in this recent interview with JC:

http://www.movieweb.com/movie/avatar/exclusive-james-cameron-talks-avatar-re-release

At about the 4:15 min mark, JC begins to talk about the superior quality of the (Tsu'tey death scene), having been completed by WETA only within the last three months. In other words, we are to expect even better rendering for the extra footage. In my mind, this opens the door, say a year or so down the line, to yet another Blu-Ray/DVD release -- one in which all of the original CGI is completely re-rendered to an even higher standard of detail and quality.

Okay, can't wait for the special edition BUT....Cameron saying that part 2 and 3 may be filmed back to back?! This is NOT good news...anytime this has been done, things have not turned out well:

Back to the Future 2 & 3: Part 2 was good, 3 sucked
Matrix 2 & 3: Part 2 was good, 3 sucked
Pirates of the Carribean 2 & 3: Part 2 was good, 3 sucked (I couldn't even finish it)

(are there more??)

This pattern scares me. Now, I know we're talking about Cameron here, and that changes everything (and I'm sure some ppl like all the part 3's I mentioned)...but still, back to back sequel filming doesn't exactly have a good track record.

Not to mention all the bad part 3 movies overall:
terminator 3
alien 3
beverly hills cop 3
rambo 3
xmen 3
godfather 3
halloween 3
transformers 2 (sorry HAD to sneak that in)

Again, none of these were done by Cameron....i'm just sayin'. Okay, off my soapbox...I will think positive from now on!!! :)

Ever heard of Lord of the Rings?

:nlol:

All three films were flimed back-to-back, and all three made over $800 million in the box office.

Lord of the Rings changed my life. Being filmed back ot back probably isn't a bad thing.

I'm hoping in those 9 minutes of deleted scenes some stuff with Grace because It's my favorite character !! I read the script and a lot of scenes with her are missing in the movie !

I would like to see the scene when Jake takes the cigarette out of her mouth and says "stop with this sh**, then you can lecture me..."

The official Avatar site (AvatarMovie.com) has a little 16-second commercial which has a new shot from Site 26:

http://www.avatar-forums.com/images/imported/2010/08/80.png

This probably will be accompanied by Jake's voiceover talking about the "physics" of the Hallelujah Mountains. (Cartoon physics, but it's just a movie.)

I'm very apprehensive about the Tsu'tey death scene. It may leave too much of a negative feeling on me. As it is, the Tsu'tey death scene in the original Avatar had a strong impact on me, I can't imagine my reaction to what's coming in the re-release.
