Planet of the Apes fans (including myself) will rejoice that the new prequel Planet of the Apes movie, 'Rise of the Apes' slated for June 24th 2011.
James Franco will play the part of a scientist in modern day San Francisco, that through genetic engineering, enables apes to gain intelligence and well, we all know the rest.

Andy Serkis will again don the motion capture suit ( like he did with Gollum in LOTR) with the facial cameras, (for the facial expressions) to play the chimp Ceasar, and Weta is creating photo-realistic apes like the way the Na'Vi were created in Avatar. No actors in ape make-up this time.

This sounds real exciting and will be very interesting to see how the apes turn out, considering how good the Na'vi turned out.
Thank-you Avatar for enabling this to happen.

I'd like to see a sequel to Tim burton's film, given the ending of it. what happens to Mark Wahlberg's character on the alternate Earth?

Yeah, I was wondering how they would handle that one as well, but as time went on, I soon realised that we wont ever find that out.
It will be interesting though to see how they handle this 'Conquest' remake, with WETA on board.

Well the problem with mammals like Apes is that, They have body hair. If you have noticed it is hard to do CGI hair. So that will be the real challenge.

Well this will be something of a challenge for them I suppose, and judging their past results, I feel quietly confident they'll succeed again, fingers crossed.
I really hope they get this right, I'm so looking forward to this, being a long time apes fan.

i'll still want to see this, but nothing will ever beat the ending to the 1968 original,NOTHING! that lonely beach, two distant figures on horses round the turn of the beach, waves coming in against a perfect blue sky. they stare up,speechless. one of the two figures on his knees in the surf, staring up at the 2,000 year old Statue of Liberty arm buried in the cliff face...'damn you, damn you all to hell!!!' it haunts me to this day...

I need to watch the original, I've never seen it, I'll check Netflix tonight for it. Wasn't there another one in maybe the late 90s as well?

I'd love to hear what you think of the 1968 original Drew, it is dated as it is '60's sci-fi, but it was so ahead of it's time regards social issues.
I would have to say that the '60's original was the best, the sequels showed promise but at times were cringe worthy, and the '70's TV series I loved.
The '90's remake was alright as a stand alone movie but for me I prefer the original concept, that is why I (and james as well, I think) have high hopes for the new release later this year.

Please allow for the culteral difference of the '60's and now, but also be brutally honest, when you let us know what you thought of it.

It was online on Netflix so I will have to rent it sometime soon when the weather allows me too.

I look forward to seeing it and I'll give you an honest opinion of what I think.

One thing I enjoyed about the original 3 Star Wars films more than the 3 newer ones was that all the characters were real costumes and there were people inside or they were costumes. I have never felt that CGI was good enough to replace costume until Avatar. It almost blended real people in a totally fake world seamlessly. But I think I'll always have a special place for older movies such as Star Wars or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where there is people inside costumes. Any ways the reason I mention that is it will be great to see how the Apes looked being played by people vs. how the new movie that's coming out will look.

Yea I checked out the trailer as well, it didn't really have the feel of a POTA movie, but early days yet, Caesar looks very good.

I saw the trailer, I have to admit it looks interesting, however the comments on youtube where... tasteless (and yes I do read comments).

People are complaining why the apes are going to take out the humans when the humans have gunpower and moar dakka (so to say), I think this is more of case of outsmarting and using your brains to outwit. Very clever, better than more firepower.

I hear what you are saying about the comments HufweMakto, I was looking at them to see what others had thought, but was a bit discouraged to read too many more, as there wasn't much being said about the actual movie itself, just ranting and ravings on about crap.

Also in what you say about folks complaining about apes having the ability to take over, perhaps the seeds are only planted in this particular movie anyway, like in "Conquest" you only saw the beginnings, and the fall of only one city.
But before getting too into the whys and hows, I reckon some of those making the comments should see the movie first, and see what happens.

As I already mentioned, Caesar looks real good, scheming and conniving, actually all the apes look great, the CGI is done very well, that shot with the gorilla hurling itself at the helicopter looks terrific, as does the scariness factor, where the apes are moving through the suburban tree tops.

I've got a sneaking suspicion I'm gonna love this movie, regardless that one commenter had said it was basically 'Deep Blue Sea' with apes.
