from someone who hates R&B, plus the fact every club in my area is full of it, suggest me some modern singles or albums that I could expand my taste for it
any rapping is really out of the question

Trey Songz is really popular and he doesn't rap...his most recent hit is "I need a girl" and I thought it was a decent song
A lot of songs by Ne-Yo are good but a lot of times rappers are featured in his songs
Have you ever heard of Maxwell? His album BLACKsummers'night was awesome and it was almost a blend of soul and r&b...listen to "pretty wings" that was his best song off that album
An older r&b song that is really good is R. Kelly's "I believe I can fly", classic
I hear where you're coming from for rap, mainstream rap in the past few years is like someone stabbing you in the ear, so I listen to old school rap and underground rap that is actually intellectual :-O and poetic...if you ever want to expand your taste for hip-hop (which it sounds like you don't) there's NaS who raps about a lot of political issues, etc..., there's Lupe Fiasco who is actually bearable to listen to for someone who doesn't enjoy rap...listen to "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" by him. I'll stop on rappers, but those r&b artists are a start, let me know if you need more suggestions.

i'll give them a listen in the morning, need to get some sleep, 2am here :p
for the record, I haven't heard off any artists that you mentioned other than R Kelly who has some really amazing stuff (I Believe I Can Fly, Turn Back The Hands Of Time)
I know Usher has some pretty good material, I have his album Confessions downloaded but can't remember the last time I listened to it, i'll have to give it a whirl, I also gave the track "Nice and Slow" by him a listen, which I quite enjoyed, very sensual sounding
and hiphop and me, don't really go together, lol
feel free to chuck me some more suggestions, and other people, since my music library, contains little to zero R&B material

I understand how you feel about hip-hop, lol. Usher is good, I forgot he's mostly R&B, and Confessions is a good album. It's just unfortunate that he's known more for his incidents off the stage than on now :-/ . Anyways, listen to those and see tomorrow or whenever if you want more suggestions along those lines.

I forgot to mention yesterday one of the best R&B singers in my opinion is Brian McKnight. His most famous song is "Back at One" which you might recognize if you listen to. Just thought I'd mention him, let me know what you think of these artists.
ANTHONY HAMILTON
this guy is great, his songs are all relaxing and is true R&B, not that hiphop singing bullshiit. the stuff they plat at clubs isn't R&B (i bet it's Rihanna, Chris Brown, T-Pain and all that)
just have a listen to some of these and decide :nlol:
