In Avatar, humans are dominant in anyway, on Earth, on Pandora. Its what they do. They like wars, domination and power and its their nature.
Probably someday like in Avatar, humans are the species you don;t want to be around with.
Any thoughts?
true, whatever we want, we just go out and take it. well, not all humans are like that but it seems like the people who have this sort of attitude are the significant ones on this planet. I'm sure you, and also me, would take a different approach but we are just ordinary people. What can we do? not much. The fact that there will be humans who don't want to be around humans says something about our race.

Yeah pretty much.
When we get to space and if we found other species out there Humans would more than likely wind up being the galaxies greatest race of Con-Men, Politicians and Negotiators that could make the target sell their planet for a bag of glass beads.
And if anyone ever tried to mess with us e have no qualms about Total War and blowing the **** out of someone If they get in our collective way.
So yes, it’ll be glorious for the Human Race.

Wow. Way to characterize every member of the species as the same. GG.

Yeah. I don't find that to be a mis-characterization of our species at all.
Pretty nasty bunch actually...

You're likely reading American made history books - we have this really unfortunate tendency to make everyone who doesn't follow the modern mindset look like a bunch of assholes, especially ourselves. We love to apologize - screw the why we did half the **** we did in the past, just apologize for it.
The only group that had zero redeeming qualities to them were the upper echelons of the Nazis, Caligula, Nero. Everyone else were doing something for a reason they felt was necessary, rather than hatred - or lulz - alone.
After all, if we all were such assholes deep down, like hell would we admit it, and we sure as hell wouldn't have allowed for the modern mindset to come into play. And I'd be willing to bet everything I own that any other real sapient species would have just as chequered a past as we have.
TL;DR - Point, but you neglect our good points as well. Also, Avatar should not be taken as an accurate depiction of other sapient life (IE:Na'vi being a friggin Mary Sue-ciety); if you want to look at what it would be a more likely scenario of inter species relations, look at Babylon Five.
I'm fairly sure we'll fit in just fine.

People who follow the "modern mindset" as you put it, tend to look like assholes as well.
Humanity as a species is aggressive, territorial, and expansionary. That's us, denying it to feel better wont help anything.
Now the Na'vi were portrayed as the exact opposite of us, for a reason. Without extreme's its hard to see differences like that. Avatar is fiction, it is in no way an accurate "first contact" scenario. In all likelihood, any intelligent life of note we discover, would share similar traits to us. Either resulting in a mutually beneficial partnership of conquest, or interstellar war.

Both of which would be awesome. Case in point; Babylon Five.
And keep in mind, one can be an *******, while still being a pretty nice guy. And one can be a nice guy, while still being a dick.
And thank you for stating my point in case again ^^. Like to know I'm on the same page as other people.

Here is what comedian George Carlin says on humans in this vid someone posted YouTube - George Carlin on aliens (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKmUPEeyYsU) In one stand up he said because of how we are, the universe isn't that eager for us to show up. Well all you have to do is look at how humans are and think about how a more harmonious or advanced civilization would view us.

You really think any other civilization will be any more harmonious than us, in our own interpretation? Bull; the most likely scenario is that whatever other civilization exists out there has such an alien and esoteric form of morality that ours and theirs would be incomparable.

An alien culture, built by an alien mind, on an alien world, with alien bodies.
What makes you think it would have anything in it that is relatable? Their form of justice, if they had any would be completely different, they may be even less environmentally minded then we are.

Well humans would be hated in the universe, right now but if we were ever to gain knowledge of a cosmic community and gain access to it, Im sure, mentally, we'd a a lot more advanced.
3 in a row, thats a first :rotfl:

*Starts laughing like a madman*
There is no peace amongst the stars and to think otherwise is foolhardy in the extreme.
When we get to space were bringing with us all of our greatest virtues as well as our greatest sins.

We were flawed thousands of years ago when the celtics collected the severed heads of their enemies, we were flawed millions of years ago when the first apes that would become the human race stole babies from mates who would ignore them so they could get their attention.
What makes you think we will be anything but flawed hundreds or thousands of years from now? We are human, we were human then, we are human now, and we will be human in the distant future, this includes all of the GOOD and the BAD that comes with being a human.
The idea that with time we will 'mature' or grow 'wiser' is a TV trope from popular story telling culture. We are not an immature race, we simply are. We are human, nothing more than human, and nothing less than human. We as a species are amoral, divided, working individually towards common goals.
Any other species would be totally seperate from our way of doing things by the simple reason that they are alien. Common sense, or movements such as environmentalism may or may not cross inter-species boundaries. Even our sense of justice and fairness may in the end remain soley the domain of humanity.

By saying humans would be hated we are assuming that aliens are better than us in some way. This is not necessarily true. They might view us as the ideal being for all we know.
But, from Farscape, here are quotes on humans, as an example on what the universe might think.
"If Humans are remembered for anything, it will be for the quality of their manual labor"
"Humans never give up"
Also in the show, humans are the most peaceful and natural being around, and they are viewed as hopeless primitives.
Just some things to show that humans may not be hated, they might be viewed as ideal or simply as a potential slave race.
Edit: Sorry if I "necroed" an old thread of whatever. I just noticed now this was from last month.

Humans are evil, they kill, they steal, they conquer. And you know why? Because in other way we get extinct
If there is any alien life form it will be a bloodbath and in the end will be just one

There are the rare aberrations that for whatever reason follow a more spiritual mindset, such as the aborigines of Australia and other tribals, although I consider them the exception as opposed to the rule. It takes a very special group of people to be able to pull something like they did off.
