All I can think when I see him is about the animals he killed
He only acts in his own self-interest

Throughout the entire film, Jake was only shown killing animals twice. This was with the Vierpwolves and Hexapedes. At the time he killed Viperwolves, he did not "see". Not only that, but it was for his survival, as was the killing of the Hexapede. In a way, he gave respect to the Hexapede after killing it, whereas he did not before with the Viperwolves.

Well I kinda agreed with the topic title, until I read what the topic is about that is lol!
Even Na'vi have to kill animals to survive! Think about the Thanator for example, do you know how many animals he must have killed? Well... many! :rotfl:
Anyway, to elaborate my view of Jake's ignorance, I thought he was kinda insolent when he told Tsu'tey "you would honor me by translating"... you know if I was Tsu'tey, I'd just blow up and beat him up lol. Take this: first he's a foreigner basically "dating" your future wife, then he stoles her from you, after that he reveals he was a traitor all the time and now he flies back on Toruk thinking he's badass and basically takes the position of a leader of the clan, leaving you as a sidekick on both fronts (woman/status)... and now, he wants you to translate him???

Exactly. If I was Tsu'tey I would have been thinking "Are you ****en serious?!" and note how Jake takes Neytiri's hand RIGHT INFRONT OF HIM. Tsu'tey was probably pissed but kept his cool for the sake of the situation they were all in.

Would be nice if you could be more specific.
I don't find him ignorant because he kills the viperwolfes. That's survival in a life threatening situation.
Yes he is egoistic when he makes a deal with Quaritch. But at that point he has not grown any attachment to the Na'Vi or the Pandoran fauna yet.
And getting offered a chance to walk again might be a big motivation as well.
We have to remember that Jake is a trained soldier, and not a biologist, doctor or ecologist.
He came to Pandora for the money. So he could pay for a spinal operation. He didn't come with the intention to help the Na'Vi, the rainforest or saving the whales.
But he got smarter, he just needed an eye-opener.
Jake in the beginning of the movie is the embodiment or personification of the general human tendency of behaving and thinking. The reason the earth has become such a miserable place.
I agree that you could get the impression that he acts a bit ignorant in the beginning of the movie.
But from my point of view, that was intentional from the creators.
You have to imagine that this guy comes from a dead concrete world, polluted and over populated. He knows how to behave in a concrete jungle. He knows how to survive and act in a combat situation on earth.
But on Pandora he is lost and everything is new and different to him, so he acts like a baby, don't knowing what to do.

It's called the "Fight or Flight" reflex. Jake killed only because if he didn't he would have died. At that point, instinct had kicked in, and he was willing to fight in order to save his life.
Neytiri or any of the Omaticayans probably would have done the same, were they in that same situation. You cannot say Jake acted out of self-interest because he was trying to save his life... any animal or being would act in a smilar fashion if they were put in this position, and had other animals stalking them and trying to attack.

Actually, if you see the episode with the viperwolves, he did not kill any!
He wounded some, yes - and he was probably going to kill them, yes - But it was only Neytiri who actually killed some!
And the scene with the Hexapede was a "clean kill" - so here i'm with you bro :)

I didn't really see it as ignorance, if somethings trying to kill me I'd put it out of commission as fast as I could.
Also, animals taste good, why not kill em? The Na'vi hunt and kill plenty of animals for food.

Okay, to clear this up. First, becoming Toruk Makto is a really, really big deal. (Think, second coming of Christ for Christians big. This has been discussed before, so, yeah. He was forgiven.)
Second, Jake and Neytiri mated. Its a done deal, for life. Neither of them can be with another. So holding hands wouldn't make Tsu'tey angry, there's nothing he can do about it. And I think he'd moved beyond that transgression by that point.
