If you remember, Norms Avatar was killed during the ground war, and he survived. It hurt him, but he did survive.

Well, I think Norm's avatar got wasted, and he survived.

I think the worst that could happen is the shock of your body dying kills your actual brain, just like in the matrix.

Yeah I know about norm, but what about when they leave jake out overnight? Are they just worried for the avatar body or for jake?

I think for the body. Simply because its irreplaceable, and worth billions.

There was also something in I think the scripment 880 where one of the avatars lets himself get eaten over heartbreak ,if I remember correctly, and his human form survived but not sure of his sanity.

(Lol, leaving him out overnight, makes him sound like forgotten laundry or something XD) Yeah, I think it's mostly for the body, which is worth ~20 million bucks. However, I did detect a little concern for a fellow human being from Grace so who nows.

^^ That too. He wasn't quite "all there" after it died. I know I would have been really sad if Jake's avatar had been killed, poor guy (Jake, not the avatar) :,(.

We don't know for sure that Norm's avatar is dead. It got shot in the shoulder, which usually isn't fatal, but the shock of it would have broken the link. Afterward, when Norm left the shack, it's very likely he was trying to find his avatar to patch it up.

I read in an original script where it states the avatar could die without harm to the human, but it made him a bit off his rocker.

I think you feel the same the Avatar feels, but you don't die because you just radiocontrol the Avatar with your brain, you real body cannot be hurt, Matrix seems to be different.

Nah, i don't think so. The human would just get a bit of a shock, like Norm.

Yeah I agree, the Na'vi were "very hard to kill" so Im guessing Norm's avatar survived but the shock broke the link, Norm is clearly shaken after he gets out of link room and rushes off aimlessly into the forest, probably searching for his avatar. We dont see him or his avatar for the rest of the movie I dont think.

I don't believe the driver dies if his avatar is killed, it may suffer some psychological effects ( they are greater if he/she managed to establish relations with the people and Eywa, in that case he may turn insane) but that's mostly it.

I didn't know Norm's avatar was dead ?
I thought it just got wounded.

At the end where the Na'vi are sending the humans back home, Norm is there but in human form, I'm not saying that his Avatar is dead (I hope not) but he wasn't using it. So he could be letting his Avatar heal or it could be dead.

Yeah Norm wouldn't want to get back in his Avatar with some painful impact wounds on his avatar's shoulder. :)

My guess would be that Norm's avatar is probably dead by the end of the film when we see him standing next to Neytiri and Jake.

My reasoning is this:

The wounds his avatar received were almost certainly not in and of themselves fatal. However, in the confusion and rush to wrap things up after the Great Battle Against The Sky People, getting his avatar back to Hell's Gate where its wounds could be tended to and it could be fixed up was pretty low on the priority list.

Basically, it's my guess that his avatar would have bled out and/or become food for viperwolves, Thanators, or any other large Pandoran predators/scavangers.

...or... The Na'vi clans returned to the battle ground to retrieved their dead to bury them and tend to their wounded? It could be that Norm's Avatar could be looked after by the Na'vi until the Avatar could be returned to Hells Gate for treatment.

Also we do see Norm run out from the cabin with a should bag..possibly a first aid kit?..to tend to err himself!?

The other thing not in the film is the overthrow of Hells Gate by the Avatars, although it was filmed - you see it in the behind the scenes footage - so maybe many of the Na'vi returned there to be treated too. Who knows? Maybe we'll find out in about 3 years time!

I think I've read from somewhere that an avatar costs around 5 billion dollars lol...

I've also read somewhere that when an avatar dies, the human will just wake on his/her own body... I'm not sure about the side effects though...

I think I've read them from the Avatar wiki site...
