I haven't really seen this posted anywhere else, but it sounds like the April 22 Blu-ray DVD won't be totally devoid of extra incentive....(be sure to click to show the full press release)
Fox continues to pull back the layers of its release schedule for Avatar after yesterday's press event with director James Cameron, producer James Landau and Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers (above) as Reuters indicates the Blu-ray 3D version will arrive next year. What does 2010 hold for the most dedicated fans of Pandora? While the DVD and Blu-ray editions due April 22 will arrive stripped clean of any extras whatsoever, a registration code slipped in the case will give owners access to "The AVATAR Program" to view bonus content online, adopt a "virtual hometree" among the million being planted and other enticements to string them along connect this release with an ultimate edition due in November. Check the press release after the break for all the details and see if you can resist the urge to triple dip.

I read about this a few hours ago and I have to say that I for one am a very happy Avatar fan right now, I'll definitely be adopting one of those trees as well as triple-dipping, LOL.

I read the reason for no bonus content on the disc is so the entire disc can be used for movie data so that you get the highest quality video possible.

There won't be any special features or trailers for other movies on the disc because James Cameron wanted the best video & audio quality possible. In order to get the highest quality of audio and video, they had to utilize the entire disc purely for the movie itself, nothing else.
The November release, which is the special edition will have all the special features.

that suck, he could have made it a 2 disk set, one for the movie and one for the bonus stuff

Yes they could have made it a two disc set, but I think I read that some of the special features and the 6 minutes of extra footage are not ready yet so they need time to complete everything. They thought it was right to release the movie itself sooner so all us Avatar fans could have it without having to wait until November to get the special edition.
Also, when it releases April 22, the Blu Ray version actually includes a regular DVD as well. I think the Blu Ray/DVD combo pack is available everywhere, but I know the price in Canada for it is $29.99, same with the US too I think.
But hey, if you buy both versions, that means you have three copies of the movie and all those awesome special features they are going to include! :nlol:
The November release has 3 different versions of Avatar on the disc, the theatrical version, a version with the 6 minutes of extra footage added in, and an earlier cut of the film with some unfinished material.

Could have made a 2 disk set I agree. Blu-Ray has way more than enough space for extra content. I believe its all just a way to make more money, as I know i will be buying every release of it.

How long are the deleted scenes though? Even though there would be different cuts of the film, with one that includes 8 minutes of additional footage and another one that includes 35 minutes of additional footage, does that mean that all the deleted scenes add up to 35 minutes?

Oh man, I remember in the first 2 weeks or so after I saw Avatar, I thought to myself that I'd never be able to buy the DVD. This was only because I thought it would ruin the immersive and natural feel that the cinema gave it. But, now I'm immensely pumped for the DVD release. I'll be sure to get the Blu-ray version, but I would like to know, if any of you have absolute 100% positive knowledge on how much deleted footage there will be. How many minutes worth of extra stuff will be in the next DVD version?
